More than 2,000 athletes participate in the Can Tho University Trade Union Sports Festival in 2023

On November 12, Can Tho University Trade Union organized a sports walking competition and closed the 2023 traditional sports festival. The event also had the participation of industry trade unions of the provinces: Tien Giang , Kien Giang, Bac Lieu, Soc Trang, Ba Ria - Vung Tau.

Ms. Duong Thi Tuyen, President of the Trade Union of Can Tho University, said that the sports festival is an activity that has been maintained and developed for decades. Teachers, staff, and workers are very interested and responsive. The biggest goal of the sports festival is to create exchanges, solidarity, and understanding between units and individuals; thereby increasing support and assistance to each other in professional work as well as in life.

The sports festival took place from October 15, attracting more than 2,000 athletes to compete in 11 sports (22 events). The number of teams registered to compete was 28, from 39 coordinating units. This year, there was a new sport, pickleball. The sport with the most teams registered to compete was volleyball (15 teams). The sport walking took place last but attracted the most with nearly 1,200 athletes participating.

Accordingly, the sport walking event has 4 competition categories: men over and under 45 years old, women over and under 40 years old. Each walking session awards 1 first prize, 1 second prize, 1 third prize and 7 consolation prizes, in addition to prizes for leaders. Children of teachers, civil servants and workers who participate in the walk will receive gifts.

Mr. Tran Trung Tinh, Vice Principal in charge of Can Tho University, said that over the past month of the sports festival, the athletes have competed with determination in the spirit of exchange and physical training, not focusing on achievements. This shows that the sports movement helps each person reduce some of the pressure in daily work. Therefore, in addition to this sports festival, the school also encourages units to organize their own sports activities, which may be small in scale but take place more frequently.
