Legend Paul Gascoigne hospitalised after collapsing at home

(NLDO) - English football legend Paul Gascoigne was just taken to the intensive care unit after falling unconscious at his home in the early morning of July 21.

Gascoigne, a former Newcastle, Tottenham and Lazio star, was found in a semi-conscious state by a friend. The 58-year-old was taken to intensive care but is now said to be in a stable condition.

In addition, he will have to stay in the hospital for a few days to continue treatment and monitor his condition before being discharged.

Earlier this year, Gazza spoke optimistically about his health, telling The Mirror he felt much healthier than he had in years, after battling alcoholism and mental health issues.

The 58-year-old said: "I feel much better now than I have in many years. I hope I can now look back on everything I've been through with a different, more positive perspective. After all these years, I feel it's time people can get to know the real me."

Paul Gascoigne, nicknamed "Gazza", is one of England's most beloved footballers, particularly popular in the 1980s and 1990s. After coming through the Newcastle academy, he made his first-team debut in 1985, scoring 25 goals in 104 games before moving to Tottenham. Gascoigne helped Spurs win the FA Cup in 1991, before playing for Lazio, Rangers, Middlesbrough, Everton and Burnley.

For England, Gascoigne made his debut in 1988 and became a key player at the 1990 World Cup, helping the Three Lions reach the semi-finals.

The image of him crying after receiving a yellow card - which means suspension if the team reaches the final - moved millions of fans.

Gazza continued to play at Euro 1996, with a memorable goal against Scotland, but England lost to Germany on penalties.

Gascoigne finished his international career with 57 caps and 10 goals.

Despite his many controversies and personal problems, he is still considered one of the most special talents English football has ever produced.
