According to Tom's Guide , a source has just revealed that the performance of the A18 Pro chip on the iPhone 16 Pro will increase insignificantly compared to the A17 Pro generation.
News revealed by source @ negativeonehero (Nguyen Phi Hung) on X shows that the A18 Pro chip has a performance increase of only 10% compared to the A17 Pro on the iPhone 15 Pro launched last year.
Predictions based on Geekbench performance benchmarking software. Specifically, according to Tom's Guide 's test, the A17 Pro chip's multi-core performance score averaged 7,194 points. If the information from @negativeonehero is correct, the A18 Pro chip will increase by 10%, thus only achieving a performance score of about 7,913 points.
In a recent leak, Notebookcheck said that the multi-core performance scores on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Dimensity 9400 chips reached 10,628 points and 11,739 points respectively. If these rumors are correct, both will be far ahead of Apple's next chip.
Of course, Geekbench scores are always considered to be a bit far-fetched, as there's no way to verify the results. Geekbench often gives a good first look at a device's performance, but the differences between iOS and Android are hard to tell.
The two operating systems have different approaches and optimizations for software and systems. As such, real-world performance when using applications and performing daily tasks may not be entirely reflected in simple test scores.
Previously, according to 91mobiles , the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are said to have significant design changes compared to their "predecessors". The iPhone 16 Pro measures 149.6 x 71.4 x 8.4 mm, slightly larger than the iPhone 15 Pro (146.6 x 70.6 x 8.25 mm). This is completely consistent with rumors that the iPhone 16 Pro will have a screen size increase to 6.3 inches.
MacRumors website commented that the reason for increasing the iPhone 16 Pro screen size is to make space for the new camera design.
The CAD renders provided by 91mobiles ' source show a new button on the right side of the iPhone 16 Pro, which is said to be similar to the shutter button on a professional camera with two stages: a light press to focus and more force to take a photo.
The camera shutter button is located on the bottom edge of the new iPhone alongside the power button. It will have functions like focus and zoom adjustment in addition to triggering photo and video capture.
The Information said the new button will encourage iPhone users to shoot more videos. Apple will also focus on developing new features to support video recording, in order to boost sales for the new generation of iPhones.
The iPhone 16 series is expected to launch next September. Notably, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max versions will have strong camera upgrades, support for Wi-Fi 7 and 5G Advance connectivity, and a graphene-based cooling system. The iPhone 16 series will likely support generative AI, allowing users to interact with chatbots or create text-based images right on their phones.
