Dynamic Island is scaled down for the first time

Since Apple introduced Dynamic Island in 2022, the interactive interface cluster that replaces this “rabbit ear” has hardly changed much. Dynamic Island is a pill-shaped block that both houses the Face ID hardware and has the ability to flexibly transform into the user interaction center.

According to a leak from an employee working at a screen protector manufacturing company, the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max will have a smaller Dynamic Island – only 1.5 cm wide instead of 2 cm like on the iPhone 16 Pro. This helps increase the display area and provide a more intuitive experience.

Sources say Apple has used new metal materials and a flat optical lens system to shrink the Face ID cluster, reducing the space occupied while still maintaining security.

The news of the miniature Dynamic Island comes just as the tech world is gearing up for the September 9 "Awe Dropping" event, where Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 series.
