According to the announcement, the Israeli military said "about 20 projectiles were detected flying from Lebanon" around 5 a.m. on September 22 (local time), followed by a barrage of "about 85 projectiles" launched from Lebanon. The military added that rockets were also fired during the night. Four people were injured by shrapnel during the night.

The Israeli military also reported attacks from the east. The military said that overnight, "multiple suspicious air targets" approached Israel from the direction of Iraq, but insisted the targets were intercepted and no injuries were reported.

Also on September 22, Hezbollah said it had targeted military production facilities in northern Israel in response to explosions this week targeting Hezbollah communications equipment that killed dozens of people and injured nearly 3,000.

The Wall Street Journal commented that in the context of escalating conflict with Lebanon's Hezbollah movement, Israel is taking advantage of its intelligence and military advantages to issue a "tacit ultimatum" to Lebanon: either withdraw its armed forces from Israel's northern border, or start a conflict.

Until now, US officials have been determined to find a diplomatic solution to the conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, which could force the Lebanese armed group to voluntarily withdraw its forces from the Israeli border and return to the boundary lines agreed after the 2006 war.

According to the Wall Street Journal , Israeli officials declared that these negotiations had reached a dead end, “and there was no time left to seek any solution other than conflict.”

Earlier, there was information that the Israeli Air Force had completed a new, very fierce attack on the infrastructure of the Hezbollah movement.
