The AFP Junior Open 2025 is an environment that helps young pickleball players affirm their position and initially get acquainted with the path of professional pickleball. The tournament brings together many young and talented international players from countries in the region where the pickleball movement is developing.
Paired with Phuong Anh - a famous and accomplished athlete, Jolie Lam was like a "tiger with wings" in her first participation in an international tournament. Both made a strong impression on fans.
Right from the group stage, Jolie Lam and Phuong Anh led the table with 2 wins 11-0 against the pair Aditi Matta and Nishtha Gupta and 11-2 against the pair Stuti Stuti and Aadi Kundra.
In the quarterfinals, there was an internal match between two pairs of Vietnamese athletes. Jolie Lam - Phuong Anh faced off against the sisters Vu Yen Phuong - Vu Yen Nhi. The score was 11-0 for Jolie Lam and Phuong Anh.
The semi-finals will be a real test of the championship contenders' understanding, coordination and ability to read the game. The Shi Yile and Chia Yi Lee duo were considered very strong from the group stage.
The semi-final match ended with a score of 11-7 for the Vietnamese women's pair. The victory for Phuong Anh is not new, but for Jolie Lam it is a step forward on the path to professional development.
The 2025 AFP Junior Open U18 Women's Doubles Championship is a worthy result of Jolie Lam's efforts. Previously, the girl born in 2008 had only won titles in grassroots tournaments.
This achievement made Jolie Lam's parents excited. They had previously decided to invest in their daughter's transition from tennis to pickleball.
Mr. Lien Ngo Nhat Quoc Dai (Jolie Lam's father) said: "The family is determined to invest all its resources in Jolie's development into pickleball. Hopefully, she will bring glory to Vietnamese pickleball in upcoming tournaments."
Jolie Lam's real name is Ngo Lien Chung Thien Lam. The 17-year-old girl was a young tennis talent in Ho Chi Minh City, before turning to playing professional pickleball.
