Fans recently noticed Timberlake looking lethargic and lacking energy during performances on the international leg of his Forget Tomorrow World Tour without knowing why.
With this post, the nerve damage and debilitating condition caused by Lyme disease was confirmed as the primary cause of the condition.
"I've been struggling with some health issues and was diagnosed with Lyme disease. I'm not saying this to get people to pity me, I just want to shed some light on what I've been dealing with behind the scenes. If anyone has had this disease or knows someone who has, they know that living with it can be incredibly debilitating, both mentally and physically," the Cry Me a River singer shared.
Timberlake also described his feelings when he was first diagnosed with Lyme disease. He revealed that he considered stopping touring but ultimately decided to continue because of his love of meeting audiences.
The singer wrote: "When I first got diagnosed, I was in shock. But at least I could understand why I was having terrible headaches or just feeling extremely tired or sick on stage. I was faced with a personal decision: Do I stop touring or do I continue and find a solution? I decided that the joy of performing far outweighed the temporary stress my body was enduring. I'm so glad I kept going."
He added: "Not only have I proven my mental strength to myself, but I've had so many special moments with everyone that I'll never forget. I've been hesitant to share this because I was always taught to keep things like this to myself. But I'm trying to be more open about my struggles so they don't get misunderstood. I'm sharing all of this in the hope that we can all find a way to connect with each other more. I want to do my part to help others who are also suffering from this disease."
Timberlake concluded his Forget Tomorrow World Tour in Istanbul, Turkey, on July 30, more than a year after starting in Vancouver, Canada, last April. During the tour, the singer traveled through the United States before traveling to Europe, Mexico, and South America.
