Premier League results: Man City beat Nottingham Forest, close to Arsenal

Arsenal's victory puts pressure on Man City in their away match at Nottingham Forest. Against an opponent determined to earn points to ensure their place in the league, coach Pep Guardiola's team did not play as well as usual but still played well enough to win.

Nottingham Forest's possession in the first half was just over 30%. Surprisingly, however, the home team had more shots than their opponents. Nottingham Forest only had themselves to blame for failing to score after 8 shots (only one on target).

Meanwhile, Man City's attack was deadlocked and they did not create a high-intensity game, but they knew how to take advantage of their opportunities. Josko Gvardiol opened the scoring in the 32nd minute with a header from a corner kick aimed at the near post by Kevin De Bruyne.

The game did not change much in the second half. Man City had more possession but only coordinated slowly, rarely creating threatening situations that made it difficult for the opponent's defense.

In the opposite direction, Nottingham Forest had many open counter-attacks on both flanks when the opponent pushed up. However, the low quality of the attacking players caused the home team to miss their chances.

In the 62nd minute, coach Pep Guardiola sent Erling Haaland onto the field. The Norwegian striker was absent for most of the match. However, when the opportunity arose, he immediately made his mark with a simple pass and shot to increase the score to 20 in the 71st minute.

This goal helped Haaland surpass Cole Palmer in the race for the "golden boot" (top scorer) of the Premier League season 2023/24. The Man City striker temporarily holds the No. 1 position with 21 goals, 1 more than his former teammate.

Nottingham Forest failed to improve their attacking quality in the remaining time despite their best efforts to push their squad up. Man City kept the game under control. The 2-0 score was enough for coach Pep Guardiola's team to continue chasing the top team Arsenal with a gap of only 1 point (Man City still has 1 match left to make up).
