Exploiting advantages and improving the lives of people in Thung Nai commune

Lying next to the poetic Hoa Binh Lake, Thung Nai has long been likened to “Ha Long on the mountain” with majestic natural landscapes, peaceful villages, and rich cultural colors of ethnic groups. After merging with the three communes of Bac Phong, Binh Thanh and Thung Nai, this land has more potential to become a rich and beautiful land, a place that both develops agricultural products and is an attractive tourist destination on the tourist map.

Returning to Thung Nai in early October 2025, it is easy to see that the appearance of this land is changing every day. Route 435 connecting the commune center with Ngoi Hoa Bay, passing through nearly 20km of the commune, has been effective in trade and tourism. From here, convoys of passenger cars from all over the provinces and cities line up to admire the scenery of Hoa Binh Lake, visit the sacred Thac Bo Temple and experience community tourism villages.

Thung Nai has a water surface area of ​​over 856 hectares, which is favorable for aquaculture development. Currently, the whole commune has over 300 fish cages, in which many households boldly raise high-value specialties such as catfish, black carp, and catfish... Clean water with little pollution helps Thung Nai fish products have outstanding quality, fragrant, firm meat, and are favored by tourists. The locality is encouraging development in the direction of VietGAP, aiming to build the brand "Thung Nai clean fish".

Not only having the advantage of water surface, the commune is also an important agricultural production area, with more than 1,600 hectares of annual cultivation, including 379 hectares of oranges and 360 hectares of sugarcane. In addition, the movement to build OCOP products has initially made its mark with many typical products such as black turmeric extract, leaf yeast wine, community tourism...

Besides agriculture, the advantages of landscape and cultural identity have created conditions for Thung Nai to strongly develop community tourism, eco-tourism and spiritual tourism. Homestays, floating houses, and community tourism villages in Mo and Tien hamlets are increasingly attracting a large number of tourists. In 2025, tourist attractions in the commune will welcome nearly 380,000 visitors, with estimated revenue of more than 93 billion VND, creating jobs for hundreds of workers. This is a clear demonstration of the right direction in exploiting advantages to improve people's lives.

In recent years, under the leadership of the Party Committee, the government and the consensus of the people, Thung Nai has achieved many outstanding results. The work of building the Party and the political system has many innovations, the effectiveness of state management has been improved. The economy continues to grow steadily, the total budget revenue in the area increases by an average of over 10% per year, and the total social investment capital increases by about 15% per year.

A hardened rural road in Thung Nai

New rural construction is a highlight. Before the merger, all three communes had met the new rural standards. Up to now, the commune has three hamlets meeting the new rural model standards, many households have been recognized as model gardens, contributing to changing the face of the countryside. Essential infrastructure such as electricity, traffic, irrigation, and hamlet cultural houses have been invested synchronously; 100% of households have access to the national grid, and 100% of hamlets have standard cultural houses.

In the cultural and social fields, the movement “All people unite to build a cultural life” has spread widely; the rate of families meeting cultural standards every year is over 80%. Cultural institutions, sports and arts activities have developed vigorously, connecting the community. Poverty reduction and social security have been focused on, and people’s lives have been increasingly improved. National target programs on poverty reduction and development of ethnic minority areas have brought about practical results, helping many households escape poverty sustainably.

In particular, tourism and services are flourishing. Located in the national tourist area of ​​Hoa Binh Lake and having a provincial tourist destination and many community tourist attractions, Thung Nai is gradually affirming its brand on the tourist map. Many families and cooperatives are participating in service businesses, creating more livelihoods, contributing to the economic restructuring, reducing dependence on traditional agriculture.

Secretary of the Thung Nai Commune Party Committee Nguyen Tran Anh said: “The Resolution of the Commune Party Congress sets the goal that by 2030, Thung Nai will meet the advanced new rural standards; developing agriculture, tourism and services to become pillars, associated with preserving cultural identity and protecting the ecological environment”. This is the goal that local cadres, party members and people are aiming for.

To achieve that goal, the commune is focusing on implementing many synchronous solutions. First of all, promoting agricultural development in the direction of applying high technology, organic agriculture, linking production with VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards. Along with that, continuing to develop specialized citrus fruit growing areas, restructuring sugarcane areas reasonably, maintaining the geographical indication of Cao Phong oranges. Aquaculture will be organized according to planning, applying safety standards to increase product value and build the brand "Thung Nai clean fish".

In the field of tourism, the commune has identified this as a key economic sector. In the coming time, priority will be given to investing in completing infrastructure at key tourist destinations such as Thung Nai port, Thac Bo temple area, community tourism village, Vietnam Scientists Heritage Park... At the same time, attention will be paid to building unique tourism products, linking ecological, spiritual and community tourism with festivals and relics.

Along with economic development, the commune continues to pay attention to building a clean and strong Party and political system; promoting the strength of national solidarity; ensuring security and order in rural areas, and caring for people's spiritual life.
