Medical staff measure eyesight for registered people for examination and consultation.
Mr. Phan Van Ky, a 55-year-old motor-impaired person living in Thoi An Dong ward, said that his eyes were blurred when he read, but because of difficulty in moving, he was afraid to go to the doctor. When he heard the announcement that the group was coming, he immediately registered and was consulted by the doctors and given free glasses. Mr. Do Huynh Dat, 28 years old, who is hearing impaired, said that this activity was very meaningful because many hearing-impaired people, if they have additional eye problems, are afraid to go to the doctor. When the announcement was made, everyone was very happy and signed up together.
If there is a refractive error, the person coming for examination will be given glasses.
Vice President of the Association of the Disabled in Can Tho City, Le Thai Thi Phuong Thao, said: This activity is very meaningful, contributing to taking care of members' health, early detection of eye diseases and disabilities; and helping them integrate into the community, go to school, go to work and live better.
Ms. Le Thai Thi Phuong Thao uses sign language as a "bridge" between the deaf and doctors.
At the screening, those who registered had their eyesight measured, examined, consulted and were given free glasses. In addition, for the hearing impaired, the Can Tho City Association for the Disabled sent members who knew how to communicate in sign language to assist. The Can Tho City Eye and Maxillofacial Hospital also had a vision test designed to test the hearing impaired.
The clinic has a vision test for the hearing impaired.
Previously, on August 28, this activity took place with vision measurement, examination, and consultation for 80 disabled people and their relatives, of which glasses were provided to 57 people.
This activity is part of the project “Improving the quality of refractive services in Vietnam”, implemented from July 2023 to June 2028 (5 years). The project is implemented with partners such as the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management and 5 provinces and cities (including Can Tho City) with a total budget of 29 billion 456 million VND sponsored by the non -governmental organization The Fred Hollows Foundation.
In Can Tho City, the project will be implemented from November 2023 to June 2028 with partners: Can Tho City Eye - Dental Hospital and optical facilities with a total cost of 4 billion 275 million VND.
