Mr. Nguyen Long Bien - Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee - said that after the merger, Khanh Hoa province has become a land with rare advantages such as: long coastline, rich marine and island ecosystem, many famous bays and beaches such as Nha Trang, Van Phong, Cam Ranh, Ninh Chu, Vinh Hy; along with mountain, forest, desert landscapes and diverse ecosystems.

Khanh Hoa also possesses a treasure trove of unique cultural and historical heritage, from Cham Pa culture to traditional works and festivals rich in identity.

"This is the foundation for developing green tourism, green urban areas, green transportation, green energy and green community life, creating the driving force to turn Khanh Hoa into a center of sustainable development in the new period," Mr. Bien emphasized.

According to Mr. Bien, in order for Khanh Hoa to develop comprehensively green, the province has recently promoted many green transformation programs, from developing urban areas in an ecological, smart, energy-saving direction, promoting environmentally friendly public transport, using electric vehicles and clean energy, to encouraging businesses to apply circular economic models, minimizing waste and single-use plastics.

The Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee also said that sustainable green development is not only limited to tourism but must spread to all areas: from urban planning, environmental management, transport infrastructure development, energy, technology to community education.

"That is the inevitable path to improve competitiveness, create sustainable value and ensure long-term livelihoods for future generations," said Mr. Bien.

Mr. Cung Quynh Anh - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Khanh Hoa province - said that in order to develop green tourism effectively, Khanh Hoa province has had many policies over the past years, and at the same time issued a set of green tourism standards for tourism businesses, restaurants, hotels and business establishments to apply.

"According to records, initial results have been positive, such as businesses have reduced waste and used environmentally friendly materials, thereby creating a clean tourism environment and sympathetic tourists," said Mr. Anh.

According to Mr. Anh, besides the achievements, the process of greening tourism in Khanh Hoa also faces certain difficulties in human resources and limited capital in upgrading green infrastructure and public transport.

In addition, the application of renewable energy and awareness of the community and tourists in protecting the environment and reducing plastic waste are still limited, and policies to support green transformation are not yet consistent.

The Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that in order to achieve the goal of having 80% of tourist attractions and tourism businesses achieving the "green tourism" label by 2030, tourism businesses and businesses must proactively invest in technology and facilities in the direction of saving energy, using renewable energy, and reducing emissions to the environment.

Businesses need to apply circular economic models, limit plastic waste, increase recycling and reuse in business operations, and focus on training to improve green capacity and skills for staff.

"To encourage tourists and workers to participate in green transformation activities, businesses need to strengthen links with travel agencies, hotels, and communities to build green products associated with local identity," Mr. Anh said.

He also believes that the companionship, determination and innovation from businesses will be the factors that help Khanh Hoa achieve the goal of becoming a comprehensive green destination on the national and world map.

From a tourist's perspective, Mr. Le Tran Phuong (HCMC) said Khanh Hoa has all the elements for comprehensive green development, including the province possessing the longest coastline in Vietnam, a diverse ecosystem, a world biosphere reserve, rich cultural identity, and convenient transportation infrastructure.

However, Mr. Phuong said that from the orientation of tourism and economic development towards green growth to implementation in practical conditions is a long-term process that requires full awareness and participation of the whole society to change the method of exploiting resources and providing economic and tourism services.

"Therefore, Khanh Hoa province must have a roadmap for sustainable and effective green development, and must have the cooperation of people, businesses, and tourists to realize this goal" - Mr. Phuong suggested.
