Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Phan Quy Phuong surveyed and re-determined the scope of customs operations at Hong Van border gate.

The activity is implemented on the basis of Decree No. 12/2018/ND-CP of the Government (amending and supplementing Decree No. 01/2015/ND-CP) on regulations on customs operation areas and coordination responsibilities in preventing and combating smuggling and illegal transportation of goods across borders. The goal is to clearly define coordinates and administrative boundaries after reorganizing the two-level government apparatus, thereby advising on adjusting and supplementing regulations in accordance with reality; at the same time, facilitating the supervision and control of customs forces and improving the effectiveness of State management.

According to the survey, the boundary of the A Dot border gate is determined from landmark 666 (coordinates 16°03′59.793″ North latitude, 107°22′19.234″ East longitude). The scope includes: 1.5 km to the right, from the national border (coordinates 16°04′00″ North latitude, 107°23′09″ East longitude) to Ho Chi Minh road (coordinates 16°06′08″ North latitude, 107°22′31″ East longitude); 3 km on the left, from coordinates 16°03′29″ North latitude, 107°20′37″ East longitude to coordinates 16°05′30″ North latitude, 107°19′59″ East longitude; the depth inland from milestone 666 along old National Highway 14 to the border with Ho Chi Minh road is 4 km.

The Hong Van border gate area is determined from landmark 647 (coordinates 16°17′17.763″ North latitude, 107°07′14.673″ East longitude). The range includes: 1 km to the right, 1 km to the left; the depth inland from landmark 647 along National Highway 49F to the border with Ho Chi Minh road is 13.6 km long.

Speaking at the survey, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Phan Quy Phuong emphasized: accurately determining customs areas is an important requirement to create a clear legal corridor, ensuring management and supervision work in accordance with reality. At the same time, he requested departments and branches to closely coordinate in reviewing, measuring, and comparing coordinates, ensuring scientific , objective and feasible nature when proposing adjustments.

The Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee also noted that the determination of customs areas not only serves the professional work of the customs sector but also facilitates import and export, border trade, contributing to socio-economic development associated with maintaining national defense and security. At the same time, the Customs Sub-Department of Region IX is assigned to preside over and coordinate with relevant units to complete the dossier, report to the City People's Committee and the Customs Department to submit to competent authorities for consideration and decision according to regulations.

The review and adjustment of customs areas at A Dot and Hong Van border gates has long-term significance, helping to strengthen management effectiveness, while expanding cooperation and promoting trade of goods across the Vietnam - Laos border. This is a necessary step to promote the potential and advantages of the border area, linking economic development with the task of ensuring security and defense, towards building a modern, synchronous and effective border gate system.
