'No chance of cure' girl had breast augmentation and jaw reduction

Ho Chi Minh City: A 26-year-old girl suffered a brain hemorrhage and was in a critical coma after having breast implants, facial surgery, and tooth extraction. Her family asked her to go home because the doctor said "there was no possibility of saving her."

On January 11, a representative of Cho Ray Hospital said the patient's condition was too serious, and the family requested to be discharged home.

The girl was taken to the emergency room on the evening of January 9 with a severe brain hemorrhage, deep coma, and had to be treated with a ventilator, vasopressors, and drugs to limit the spread of the lesion. After more than a day of doctors' efforts to treat her, the patient's condition still did not improve.

A representative of Van Hanh General Hospital - where the patient's surgery was performed - said they had sent a report of the incident to the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management ( Ministry of Health ) and the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health. This place has set up a professional council to evaluate the above case.

Accordingly, the patient was admitted to the hospital on the morning of January 9, underwent surgery to reduce cheekbones, trim the jaw angle, extract teeth, and place breast implants at noon the same day. The surgery lasted more than 2.5 hours, ending at 2:45 p.m. After the surgery, the patient was able to breathe on his own and was extubated, but his condition gradually worsened, he did not respond to calls, and his light reflexes were unclear.

Doctors performed a CT scan of the brain and discovered a subdural hematoma, a brain hemorrhage causing compression and swelling of the brain. The patient fell into a coma, was intubated for respiratory support, and transferred to Cho Ray Hospital.

Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health Inspectorate is coordinating to investigate and clarify the incident.
