Kien Giang considers opening Phu Quoc high-speed ferry route

The People's Committee of Kien Giang province has directed the Department of Transport to consider the proposal to open an expressway from Phu Quoc to Tho Chau and vice versa.

On December 7, Mr. Giang Thanh Khoa - Vice Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee directed the Department of Transport to consider the proposal of Phu Quoc City People's Committee to open a fixed high-speed ferry route from Phu Quoc to Tho Chau and vice versa.

It is proposed to open this train no later than December 9, 2024, for convenient travel for people.

Previously, the Office of the People's Committee of Phu Quoc City sent a document to the Provincial People's Committee, proposing to open a fixed passenger transport route from Phu Quoc to Tho Chau and vice versa.

This is a move after the People's Committee of Phu Quoc City received a document from Superdong - Kien Giang High-Speed ​​Boat Joint Stock Company proposing to open a fixed passenger route from Phu Quoc to Tho Chau (Phu Quoc City) and vice versa.

According to the proposal of Supperdong shipping company, the train route will run continuously during the week during peak season, and three round trips/week during low season.

Currently, the Tho Chau - Phu Quoc route is operated by only Tho Chau 09 ship, but the schedule is up to 5 days/trip. The journey time is about 5 hours, with a capacity of 120 seats.

During peak times, the boats sometimes have to abandon passengers due to exceeding the number of seats. When there is an urgent need, the people and soldiers on the island want to travel but there are no boats, causing many difficulties for many years.

Tho Chau commune has an area of ​​about 14km2, including 8 large and small islands, located more than 100km south of Phu Quoc island and about 220km from Rach Gia city - the center of Kien Giang province.

Previously, many people of Tho Chau island commune had repeatedly commented and requested to soon have a speedboat to serve the army and people on the island.
