Kon Tum spreads the cultural beauty of ethnic minority communities

To preserve and promote the beauty of traditional values ​​of ethnic minority communities, on October 4-5, the People's Committee of Kon Tum City (Kon Tum) organized the 2nd Gong and Xoang Competition in 2024.

The competition was attended by 17 gong and xoang teams with hundreds of artisans from communes and wards in the area. The teams performed performances imbued with cultural identity, reenacting daily activities; performing musical instruments, traditional folk songs, excerpts from typical traditional rituals and festivals. In addition, 10 artisans participated in demonstrating techniques and skills in adjusting gongs, contributing to preserving the culture of ethnic minorities.

Vice Chairman of Kon Tum City People's Committee Phan Ngoc Dinh said that the contest is an important cultural event, contributing to honoring, preserving, conserving and promoting the unique cultural values ​​of the Central Highlands gong cultural space - an intangible cultural heritage of humanity. Thereby, ethnic groups in the area have the opportunity to exchange culture, increase solidarity, understanding and help each other. This is also an opportunity for Kon Tum city to promote the image of people, nature and potential and strengths of tourism to visitors. From there, it will expand opportunities to attract investment, promote typical products, and link to develop the local economy , culture and tourism.

The culture of gongs and xoang is considered by ethnic minorities in the Central Highlands in general and Kon Tum province in particular as a living soul and passed down from generation to generation. However, the number of people who know how to play gongs and xoang is not as large as before, most of the artisans are old. Through competitions, the ethnic minority community can both preserve and sustainably develop its unique culture, and it is also an opportunity to pass on to the younger generation the beauty of the nation; aiming to promote the value of the cultural heritage of gongs and xoang.
