The Ministry of Ethnic Minorities and Religions supports ethnic minorities affected by storms and floods in Nghe An.

The Ministry of Ethnic Minorities and Religions has donated VND550 million to support ethnic minorities in Nghe An affected by natural disasters and floods.

On the morning of September 24, Deputy Minister of Ethnic Minorities and Religions Nong Thi Ha led a working delegation of the Ministry of Ethnic Minorities and Religions to visit, work and give gifts to people in flood-affected areas of Nghe An .

Also attending were Head of the Department of Ethnic and Religious Affairs Lo Quang Tu; Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Vietnamnet Newspaper Bui Thi Ha.

On the side of Nghe An province, there were comrades of the Provincial Party Executive Committee: Phung Thanh Vinh - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Vi Van Son - Director of the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions.

Storm No. 3 at the end of July caused great damage to ethnic minority people in Nghe An province. Accordingly, Storm No. 3 killed 4 people, injured 3 people, completely damaged 484 houses; very heavy damage from 50-70% is 544 houses, heavy damage from 30-50% is 682 houses, partially damaged is 1,092 houses. Estimated economic damage is 3,814 billion VND.

Before recovering from storm No. 3, storm No. 5 injured 5 people, collapsed, buried, swept away, damaged, and had their roofs blown off 14,188 houses; of which 45 houses were completely damaged, 24 houses were severely damaged. Storm No. 5 caused economic damage of about 1,529 billion VND.

Immediately after the storms, the entire political system of the province was resolute, urgent, and responsible in mobilizing forces to overcome the consequences of storms and floods; encouraging and sharing with people in damaged areas, helping them to stabilize their lives soon. During the storms, the motto "4 on-site" and "3 ready" was seriously and resolutely implemented, thereby significantly reducing the level of damage caused by natural disasters.

At the meeting, the Deputy Minister of Ethnic Minorities and Religions shared the losses and damages caused by storms in Nghe An, which severely affected the ethnic minority and mountainous areas of the province; and highly appreciated the timely and flexible response of Nghe An province to the storms. Thanks to that, it contributed to reducing the level of damage to the province and its people.

Affirming that the Central, Ministries and branches pay special attention and share with localities affected by storms and floods, Comrade Nong Thi Ha committed to support programs aimed at settling people after the storm.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister of Ethnic Minorities and Religions Nong Thi Ha presented gifts to people in areas affected by natural disasters, floods and landslides in Nghe An province with a total amount of 550 million VND. Specifically, 45 households whose houses were swept away and completely collapsed were supported with a total amount of 450 million VND; Nhon Mai Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities was supported with 100 million VND to repair rooms for boarding students.

The funding source is taken from the 2025 operating budget of the Ministry of Ethnic Minorities and Religions and socialized funding mobilized by VietNamNet Newspaper.

Thanking the Deputy Minister and the working delegation, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Phung Thanh Vinh affirmed that this is a valuable source of encouragement for the people in particular and the whole province in general. The leaders of Nghe An province pledged to deploy the support source transparently, promptly, and to the right subjects, so that the gift is truly meaningful and impacts people's lives.

The Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghe An province also shared with the working delegation of the Ministry of Ethnic Minorities and Religions the specific difficulties of the province and the efforts in the initial stage of operating the two-level local government.

Comrade Phung Thanh Vinh emphasized: Providing housing for people after storms is a key task of the entire political system. At the same time, the province is very concerned about ensuring stable livelihoods for people in affected areas.

Regarding long-term strategy, the province is building and developing the Western region, where many ethnic minorities live, in the direction of promoting potential and advantages, gradually helping people escape poverty, preserving cultural identity, ensuring border security...
