On the evening of December 11, the Argentine Embassy organized a Tango performance that will take place at the National Library of Vietnam, 31 Trang Thi, Hanoi . This is the first time the Tango art promotion and exchange event has taken place here.
Sharing with the press on October 2, Argentine Ambassador to Vietnam Marcos A. Bednarski said this is an activity in response to Argentina's National Tango Day, held since 1977, on December 11 every year to celebrate the birthdays of famous Tango singer Carlos Gardel and musician Julio de Caro.
Tango is not only a dance but also a living symbol of Argentine culture. With the harmonious combination of delicate music and emotional lyrics, Tango has captured the hearts of the people here and has continuously developed strongly over time. Moreover, Tango has also reached out to become a cultural bridge, connecting art-loving souls all over the world.
Ambassador Marcos A. Bednarski expressed his impression that many Vietnamese people love and perform Tango.
“I was surprised when I passed by the park and saw people excited and engrossed in the Tango dance. We will continue to promote this dance in Vietnam,” Mr. Bednarski emphasized.
The Embassy of Argentina will donate many Tango dance images to the National Library of Vietnam for display purposes.
On this occasion, the Argentine Embassy also informed about the achievements of dancer Alice Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuong, who, together with Filipino male dancer Joselito Canilo Serentas, was granted a special place in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Tango World Championship (Mundial de Tango) held in Argentina last August.

The Mundial de Tango, held annually in Buenos Aires, Argentina, is an international artistic and sporting event that brings together thousands of dancers from around the world. It is not just a competition, but also a multi-week cultural festival with over 2,000 artists contributing over 500 activities such as concerts, classes, and workshops at iconic locations in the city.
After winning the Philippines 2025 qualifying championship, the pair Alice Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuong (Vietnam) and Joselito Canilo Serentas (Philippines) were granted a wildcard into the quarter-finals of the tournament. From there, they continued to overcome intense rounds with the participation of hundreds of strong opponents from around the world to officially enter the top 125 pairs in the semi-finals.
“We do not compete to compare or compete, but to learn more deeply about Argentine Tango right at its origin. For us, this is not only a personal honor but also a motivation to return and contribute to building a stronger, more systematic and cohesive Vietnamese Tango community,” said dancer Alice Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuong.
After their special journey at Mundial, the dancers hope to continue developing the training system in Vietnam, closely connecting with the international community and making Tango one of the vibrant, profound and sustainable art forms in Vietnam./.
