Lang Son: Launching the Action Month for Gender Equality and Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence

On November 13, 2023, the Committee for the Advancement of Women (VSTBCPN) of Lang Son province organized a launching ceremony for the Month of Action for Gender Equality and Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence; commended 55 outstanding women and launched the 2023 communication campaign.

Attending the event were Mr. Duong Xuan Huyen, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial Committee for the Protection of Women and Children; Mr. Phung Quang Hoi, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department; leaders of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs and departments, branches and organizations of the province; leaders of districts and cities.

In recent years, with the attention and leadership of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Provincial Committee for Gender Equality and Prevention, all levels and sectors have synchronously implemented tasks and solutions to gradually realize important goals in the national strategy on gender equality (GED); program on prevention and response to gender-based violence; communication program on GED in Lang Son province until 2030... Thereby contributing to putting the Law on GED into practice. Awareness and responsibility of organizations, individuals and families on eliminating gender discrimination and gender stereotypes have been increasingly raised, towards real GED.

It is known that the launching ceremony of the Month of Action for Gender Equality and Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence, recently implemented by the Committee for the Advancement of Women (VSTBCPN) Lang Son, is part of Plan No. 201/KH-UBND of Lang Son province dated October 19, 2023 on "Implementing the Month of Action for Gender Equality and Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence in 2023". Theme of the Month of Action in 2023: "Ensuring social security, increasing power and creating opportunities for women and girls to achieve gender equality and eliminate gender-based violence", towards building Lang Son province to develop sustainably, without poverty, "no one is left behind". Time: from November 15, 2023 to December 15, 2023.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Mr. Duong Xuan Huyen, Standing Vice Chairman of Lang Son Provincial People's Committee, requested all levels and sectors to continue to strengthen propaganda, dissemination, dissemination and strict and synchronous implementation of central and provincial regulations on gender equality and VSTBCPN; respond to the Action Month with many activities, diversify forms of propaganda and training to raise awareness of gender and gender equality; prevent and combat violence and abuse against women and children with appropriate, safe, effective and economical forms; integrate with other events to create communication effects throughout society. At the same time, fully implement support policies to ensure social security for people in general, women and children in particular; organize activities to support victims, women and children in difficult circumstances; continue to effectively implement the program on prevention and response to gender-based violence for the period 2021 - 2025.

At the same time, continue to replicate and improve the quality of models for preventing and responding to violence and abuse against women and children, promote models of "trusted addresses - shelters" in the community; models of clubs supporting women at risk of being forced to marry foreigners; models of "Safe, friendly, non-violent schools"..., build and replicate models to change "thinking and ways of doing" to empower women; promote gender equality and solve urgent problems of women and children; increase the socialization of communication activities and support victims of abuse, violence, trafficking... especially women and children.

Establish an inter-sectoral coordination mechanism in implementing gender equality work to create a combined strength to raise the sense of responsibility of each cadre, party member and people of all walks of life in implementing gender equality; condemn and fight against acts of discrimination, abuse, violence and insult to the dignity of women and children; strengthen inter-sectoral inspection of gender equality work and VSTBCPN at agencies, units and localities to promptly detect and handle those who commit acts of violence against women and girls. At the same time, each woman and girl needs to strive in studying and working to affirm and enhance their role and position in society; acquire knowledge and skills to protect themselves; be brave and speak out when they are discriminated against and subjected to violence.

Immediately after the launching and commendation ceremony, the Provincial Committee for Gender Equality and Prevention of Gender-Based Violence organized a parade to communicate about gender equality and prevention of gender-based violence on some main streets of Lang Son city.

In which, the core province assigned the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Lang Son province to be assigned many tasks such as:
Preside over and coordinate with the Provincial Women's Union and the Provincial Labor Federation to develop a plan to organize the launching ceremony of the Month of Action for Gender Equality; honor outstanding female representatives in the fields of economy, culture, society and launch a media campaign with the theme: "Ensuring social security, increasing power and creating opportunities for women and children to achieve gender equality and eliminate gender-based violence" in 2023.; Advise and develop a Program of the Provincial Committee for the Advancement of Women to visit and give gifts to women and children in difficult circumstances, victims of abuse, violence, trafficking, exploitation... in districts and cities during the Month of Action; Preside over and coordinate with press agencies and media agencies in the province to strengthen propaganda about the Month of Action in the province; Promote, hang banners, slogans, billboards, posters, and leaflets to respond to the Action Month with the theme: "Ensuring social security, increasing power and creating opportunities for women and girls to achieve gender equality and eliminate gender-based violence"; Develop reports, publish and distribute media products on gender equality and prevention of violence and abuse against women and children; Synthesize and report to the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs and the Provincial People's Committee on the results of organizing activities in response to the Action Month according to regulations.
