In response to the forecast of complicated developments of storm No. 12 Fengshen, the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang has given the initiative to the Chairmen of the People's Committees of communes, wards, and special zones in deciding to let students stay home from school, depending on the actual situation.
Accordingly, the chairmen of the People's Committees of wards, communes, and special zones; heads of schools and centers under the Department, especially in mountainous and border areas at risk of landslides and flash floods; low-lying areas at risk of flooding... regularly monitor and base on the actual situation in the locality and region to decide to allow preschool children, students, and trainees in the area and of schools and centers to take time off from school, if necessary.
Vocational training institutions, universities, and private universities, based on the actual situation, proactively decide on the attendance of students and trainees. Based on the actual situation and conditions, proactively develop plans to organize online teaching and learning when students cannot go to school in areas affected by landslides, flash floods; and areas flooded during days of complicated rain and storms.
Accordingly, units must inspect and take measures to ensure the safety of assets and equipment at workplaces and areas likely to be affected by heavy rain and strong winds; and organize the implementation of plans to protect constructions, especially degraded constructions and constructions under construction.
Before the storm arrives, the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang requires schools to brace and trim trees in the campus, trees at risk of breaking branches or falling; check ceiling fan systems, electrical equipment, electrical wires, telecommunication cables to ensure safe height, not causing danger when walking; check and brace fences, gates, ceilings, roofs; preserve teaching equipment, books, library materials, etc. Equip means to respond to natural disasters.
Ms. Le Thi Bich Thuan, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang, noted that for schools in the area, flooded areas, low-lying areas, places with unsafe constructions, bridges, etc. that can be dangerous for teachers, workers and students, especially preschool children, primary and secondary school students, there must be warning signs of dangerous areas, flooded areas; there must be plans to move assets and documents to safe locations.
The Department of Education and Training of Da Nang requires units to assign relevant departments to be on duty 24/7 to be ready to respond to any arising situations. When an incident or problem arises, it is necessary to promptly report to the Department and local leaders for handling instructions.
Regularly update information on storm and heavy rain developments; maintain communication through multiple channels to inform students, parents, teachers, and employees at the unit to proactively respond safely.
