Lao Cai exchanges models to promote gender equality

On the morning of August 29, the Lao Cai Provincial Women's Union (LPWU) coordinated with the French organization Aide et Action (AEA) to organize an exchange program on creative and effective models in communication to promote gender equality and prevent and combat domestic violence.

In recent times, the gender equality support activities of the Lao Cai Provincial Women's Union implemented in Bac Ha district, Sa Pa town and Lao Cai city (old) have achieved many positive results, contributing to spreading the spirit of gender equality in social life.

In 2024 alone, the Association organized 80 propaganda sessions combined with cultural and artistic activities at branches and groups, attracting nearly 2,000 members to participate. The Association also built and deployed many models to support women in starting businesses and developing the family economy .

Along with that, the Association coordinated with AEA to organize the "Business Innovation Challenge 2024" contest with 35 registered ideas, 18 ideas entered the final round, with a total prize value of up to 2 billion VND.

In addition, the Association also coordinated to organize the "Initiative to promote gender equality" Contest, awarding prizes to the 5 best projects. The Association also coordinated with the AEA Project and the Provincial Employment Service Center to award 100 scholarships to disadvantaged youth, of which 80 were in Lao Cai city (old) and 20 were in Bac Ha district (old).

Leaders of Lao Cai Provincial Women's Union quickly reported on the results of project implementation in localities in the province.

Besides the achieved results, the project implementation process still faces many difficulties such as gender ideology and prejudice, limited resources as well as access to information and technology, and domestic violence still occurring in some places.

Delegates discussed and proposed solutions to improve the quality and efficiency of the project.

At the meeting, delegates watched staged skits on gender equality, preventing early marriage and not giving birth to children under 18 years old; and participated in discussions on the role and responsibility of the Women's Union in promoting gender equality at the local level; challenges and difficulties in implementing gender equality; and shared experiences in maintaining and effectively operating communication models when there is no longer support from the project, to ensure sustainability.

The program contributes to raising awareness and capacity for women, building happy families, preventing domestic violence, creating inspirational stories and changing community awareness.
