On June 10, news from Ca Mau General Hospital (Ca Mau) said that the unit had just received 3 cases of methanol poisoning after drinking alcohol mixed with water instead of wine.
1 in 3 patients were hospitalized for emergency because of mixing alcohol with water to drink instead of wine
Accordingly, at noon on June 9, patient KVT (53 years old) and KXN (50 years old, both residing in Tan Dien B hamlet, Thanh Tung commune, Dam Doi district, Ca Mau) were admitted to the hospital in critical condition, requiring dialysis. By the evening of June 10, patient KXB (33 years old) was also taken by his family to Ca Mau General Hospital in serious condition for emergency treatment.
Relatives of the patients said that 2 days before being admitted to the hospital, the 3 patients and another person drank alcohol together. After drinking all the alcohol they bought, they took a bottle of alcohol (hand sanitizer) mixed with water to drink again.
A day later, all four people had headaches, fatigue, and vomiting but did not go to the doctor. Later, one person died at home, so the family took the three patients to the hospital.
On the afternoon of June 10, Dr. Ma Nhon Khiem, Head of the Intensive Care and Anti-Poison Department, Ca Mau General Hospital, said: "Currently, patient KVT is still in critical condition, patients KXN and KXB have passed the critical stage and are awake but still need dialysis."
