Located on the left bank of the Red River, Bat Trang pottery village, Bat Trang commune, Gia Lam district has a long history of formation and development associated with Thang Long - Hanoi . After moving the capital from Hoa Lu to Dai La and changing the name to Thang Long, with the king's permission, craftsmen with pottery profession, from seven Bo villages, three Bat villages moved to Yen Mo (present-day Ninh Binh province) to this land to open kilns, establish villages, produce ceramic bricks to serve the state, with the name Bach Tho Phuong, now Bat Trang.
Bat Trang ceramics have developed continuously, never absent in the royal palace, the lord's palace and the people's lives. Bat Trang bricks are also a famous brand before ceramics, lasting in spiritual architectural works and citadels across the country, and have become a folk song that has accompanied the Vietnamese people for years: "Nga Son mats, Bat Trang bricks"...

Bat Trang ceramics are famous domestically and internationally for their many designs, types, sizes, and functional classifications: household items, worship items, decorative art ceramics, and construction ceramics... With economic development and a sense of community, 23 families with the same profession and hometown have joined hands to build a united village community, which is Bat Trang ceramics village.
Each clan has its own ancestral house, which maintains the annual death anniversary of its ancestors. From the clans, the spiritual establishments of the village such as Kim Truc Pagoda, Mau Ban Huong Temple, the village communal house - the communal house worshipping Thanh Hoang; Van Chi worshipping Confucius and Chu Van An were built solidly and beautifully.

Currently, Bat Trang village has 2 People's Artisans, 6 Meritorious Artisans, 34 Hanoi Artisans, 80 Craft Village Artisans, with 22 ceramic products meeting OCOP 3-5 star standards. With typical unique cultural values and the efforts of the community in preserving and promoting the value of traditional craft village cultural heritage, Bat Trang was recognized by the City People's Committee as a tourist destination in 2019. Bat Trang pottery was decided by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to be included in the list of National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2023.
Every year, Bat Trang pottery village has many big festivals, such as the Spring Festival, formerly called the "Spring Festival to Pray for Blessings", which takes place in February; the Van Chi Festival opens on the first day of the 8th lunar month and the Mau Ban Huong Temple Festival on September 23.

After more than 1 year of carrying out procedures to request the establishment of dossiers, organizing scientific seminars, and submitting for appraisal for the traditional festival of Bat Trang village, on December 10, 2024, the traditional festival heritage of Bat Trang village was honored to be issued a decision and certified by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage. On the evening of February 14, 2025, at the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, Bat Trang ceramic craft village was also awarded a certificate by the World Craft Council as the 67th member of the World Network of Creative Craft Cities.
