In the early morning of September 13, Leverkusen hosted Eintracht Frankfurt at BayArena. This was the debut of coach Kasper Hjulmand, after coach Erik Ten Hag was fired after the first two rounds.
Eintracht Frankfurt entered the match with a perfect record. But Leverkusen under new coach Kasper Hjulmand showed a completely different side.
The home team quickly took the lead thanks to Alejandro Grimaldo's goal in the 10th minute. Then Patrik Schick increased the score to 2-0 in the 45+4 minute.
However, the drama only really began in the second half. After Frankfurt reduced the score to 1-2 in the 52nd minute, Leverkusen received two consecutive red cards.
In the 58th minute, Robert Andrich left the field after receiving a second yellow card. Things became more difficult when in the extra minutes, Leverkusen received another red card from Ezequiel Fernández.

With only 9 men left on the pitch and facing great pressure, Leverkusen unexpectedly scored a goal. In the 90+8 minute, defender Alejandro Grimaldo ended a brilliant performance after launching a classy free kick, sealing an emotional 3-1 victory for Leverkusen.
With this victory, Coach Hjulmand had a great debut. Hjulmand is not a strange name, when he led the Danish team to the semi-finals of Euro 2021 and the round of 16 of Euro 2024.
Now, the former head coach of the Danish national team is expected to help Leverkusen get back on track and compete fairly in the Bundesliga.
