Due to the religious characteristics of the Abyei region, people do not raise and consume pork, so the engineering team directed officers and soldiers to take advantage of the time when returning to Vietnam for leave to buy necessities such as pork, dong leaves, sticky rice...

After these items were delivered to Highway (the base of the engineering team), the team commander organized a competition to wrap banh chung and decorate for Tet.

The engineering team used reusable materials to decorate the living room and common room of the squads. Vietnamese soldiers used African forest branches to decorate peach and apricot trees to celebrate Tet.

The engineering team also organized a volleyball match with the Abyei locals and invited some Nigerian soldiers to serve as referees. After the match, the team gave gifts and invited the locals to enjoy traditional Vietnamese dishes.

In the coming days, the engineering team will continue to install the stage, decorate the flag-raising yard of the command post for Tet, organize cultural performances, and folk games such as tug of war, blindfolded goat catching, water balloon hitting, stick pushing, etc.

Major Nguyen Mau Vu, political commissar of the engineering team, said that in addition to preparing for Tet, the team still practiced plans to protect security and safety for the base in the context of complicated and unpredictable changes in the Abyei area.
