Speaking at the MINDEF headquarters in his 2024 New Year message, Defence Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin stressed that the procurement aims to continue modernising military equipment and assets, thereby ensuring MAF is ready to face any threat.
According to Mr. Mohamed Khaled, equipping with adequate and modern weapons is necessary in the current defense and security context. Malaysia's defense system must be enhanced with many advanced technologies, especially in the context of security risks existing in many different forms.
The MAF also plans to procure equipment such as maritime patrol aircraft, unmanned aircraft systems, light fighter-type guided trainers, 155mm self-propelled guns and light armored personnel carriers.
The Royal Malaysian Navy will receive fast interceptors, beacons and anti-submarine equipment for the Prime Minister-class submarines, while the Royal Malaysian Air Force will be provided with complete long-range radars and auxiliary equipment based at Bintulu, Sarawak.
According to Minister Khaled, MINDEF will enhance the welfare of its members and veterans by improving MAF medical services in 2024.
Specifically, MAF will enhance medical services with information technology systems at each armed forces hospital, as well as specialist clinics and mental health programs.
