Man Utd ready to push Garnacho to Chelsea

(Dan Tri) - Chelsea is making initial moves towards Alejandro Garnacho as the Argentinean has publicly stated his intention to leave Man Utd. On the other hand, the Manchester team is interested in Christopher Nkunku.

Chelsea and Man Utd are considering separate moves for Christopher Nkunku and Alejandro Garnacho this summer, going in opposite directions. Both players have expressed a desire to leave their current clubs, opening up the prospect of them swapping places, although there is no expectation of a direct swap deal.

These independent transfers are expected to solve a headache for both Man Utd and Chelsea. However, the two clubs have yet to conduct any direct negotiations on the matter during the summer transfer window.

As for Man Utd, Garnacho is said to have no future under head coach Ruben Amorim. The winger has highlighted his desire to leave by posting a picture of himself wearing an Aston Villa shirt with Marcus Rashford's name on the back. Aston Villa have been linked with Garnacho, who is said to want to stay in England and would jump at the chance to join Chelsea.

Chelsea are looking for a left-back in the summer transfer window, with Garnacho among their top three targets, along with Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Gittens and Lyon's Malick Fofana. Dortmund are hoping to secure a move for Gittens, despite having a £42m bid rejected this month. Talks between the two clubs are ongoing, with the hope of a face-to-face meeting in the United States at the Club World Cup.

Chelsea could sign more than one winger depending on other business, with all options currently being considered. Last week, Telegraph Sport reported that Mykhailo Mudryk had been charged with doping offences by the Football Association and was facing a lengthy ban, while Noni Madueke was also attracting interest.

Chelsea explored a deal for Garnacho, who is valued at around £60m by Man Utd, during the winter transfer window. The move has fuelled Old Trafford's interest in Nkunku, who is well known to the club's head of recruitment, Christopher Vivell.

That interest is said to have rekindled alongside Chelsea's continued interest in Garnacho, although Man Utd have also tried to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. Vivell has been technical director at Chelsea and RB Leipzig, where Nkunku moved to Stamford Bridge in June 2023 for £52m.

Nkunku’s impact at Chelsea has been severely limited by injury since his arrival, and the Frenchman has also struggled to hold down a regular starting place under the latest head coach, Enzo Maresca. Originally a No. 10 or second striker, Nkunku found himself stuck behind Cole Palmer at Chelsea, with Maresca preferring to play with a lone striker in Nicolas Jackson before Liam Delap arrived this summer.
