At the screening session, Dr. Phan Thao Nguyen, Deputy Director of E Hospital, said: "This is the fourth time the Hospital has organized a humanitarian surgical examination and treatment program for patients with cleft lip, palate, and many other deformities at E Hospital to bring "miracles" to unfortunate children with congenital deformities such as cleft palate, syndactyly, extra toes, earlobes, etc. Children are exempt from all surgery costs, post-operative care, and are partially supported with accommodation costs during their treatment at E Hospital."

Doctors at E Hospital examine children with disabilities.

This is a humane program and is highly appreciated by society. Doctor Phan Thao Nguyen hopes that charitable organizations and philanthropists will join the Hospital so that it can perform more surgeries on cases of physical deformities.

Ms. Ho Thi Ha (mother of 10-month-old Nguyen Ngoc Nhi, in Can Loc district, Ha Tinh province) confided: "My child has a severe cleft lip and palate defect because during the second month of pregnancy, I was sick and used antibiotics that affected the fetus. I learned about the humanitarian surgical treatment for patients with cleft lip and palate defects and many other defects at E Hospital through the district health department, I registered for surgery for my child. Collecting all the family's savings of 3 million VND, on the evening of June 11, mother and child took a bus from Ha Tinh to Hanoi. Arriving at E Hospital, mother and child received the attention of the doctors, the Social Work Department took care of each meal, free sleep and free surgery, I was given more motivation to work with my child to gradually overcome the defects."

Baby PKP (7 years old, in Xuan Tien village, Ky Lac commune, Ky Anh district, Ha Tinh province) also has a severe cleft lip and palate defect, which affects eating and drinking, causing malnutrition and stunted growth like a 3-year-old child. The baby has had 2 surgeries at a hospital in Thua Thien Hue and Da Nang , but the defect has not been completely treated, causing difficulty in eating and drinking due to food going up the nose, choking, and easily regurgitating... After the screening examination, the doctors of the Department of Dentistry (Hospital E) decided to treat the baby, perform surgery to close the cleft lip and palate, and the bone graft technique to cover the defect will be left for 2 years after the baby's health is more stable.

At the screening session, Dr. Nguyen Tan Van, Faculty of Dentistry (Hospital E), concurrently Head of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology - University of Medicine and Pharmacy ( Hanoi National University) said: Children coming for screening and consultation this time have many types of congenital cleft lip and palate defects that have not been operated on and have been operated on (lip scars, palatal holes, nasal defects). In particular, there are many children with syndactyly, extra fingers and toes. Patients are consulted, screened, operated on, re-examined after surgery and are instructed on speech therapy as well as care services before, during and after surgery. Successful surgery will help children overcome difficulties in eating and daily activities, bring confidence, and heal physical and mental injuries for children.
