(VTC News) - The French team was held to a 1-1 draw by Poland and finished second in Group D of EURO 2024.
Poland were certain to be eliminated after two defeats. However, on their farewell day, Robert Lewandowski and his teammates played their best game. The return of Kylian Mbappe did not significantly improve the French team's performance. The star wearing the number 10 shirt - with a mask covering his nose - did not connect with his teammates.

Poland entered the match confidently and in a relaxed mood. They were the team with more shots in the first 30 minutes of the match. It was not until the end of the first half that the French team created pressure on their opponents. Mbappe had two chances to face the goalkeeper but could not defeat goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski - who was playing for Poland for the first time at EURO 2024. After the break, the French team increased their attack. Ousmane Dembele earned a penalty in the 55th minute. Mbappe successfully took advantage of the opportunity to score his first goal in the EURO finals. However, the French team could not maintain the advantage. Immediately after Mbappe missed a golden opportunity, the referee reviewed the video and determined that a penalty was awarded to Poland.

Goalkeeper Mike Maignan saved Lewandowski's shot but was penalized for stepping off the goal line too early. In the replay, the Polish captain successfully converted to equalize. The French team lost the lead and could not regain their dominance over their opponents. They controlled the ball more but were very deadlocked. Mbappe showed the same image as at EURO 2020 when he played alone, very little coordination with his teammates. Coach Didier Deschamps brought on Antoine Griezmann, Olivier Giroud, and Kolo Muani but did not make a difference in attack. France did not score any more goals and were held to a 1-1 draw. At the end of the group stage, Les Bleus only finished second and will meet the second team in Group E in the round of 16.
