Expanding research cooperation in many fields between Australia and Vietnam

The University of Sydney Vietnam Institute is a non-profit social unit of the University of Sydney, Australia (SVI). Once officially operational, it is expected to open up multidisciplinary research opportunities between Australia and Vietnam in the near future.

Ms. Nguyen Thu Anh, Executive Director of the University of Sydney Vietnam Institute, shared that the Institute's main mission is to conduct multidisciplinary research in many fields, including medicine, agriculture , arts, social sciences, business, etc.

The Institute also launched Net Zero initiatives (meaning reducing greenhouse gas emissions to as close to zero as possible) to create a far-reaching, sustainable development impact for both countries in particular and the world in general.

"The establishment of the institute marks an important milestone in the process of promoting scientific research and innovation capacity in Vietnam, as the institute is one of the first Australian social enterprises to carry out research activities in Vietnam," Ms. Thu Anh emphasized.

In particular, on this occasion, the Australian Government and international donors pledged to provide non-profit funding of up to 40-45 million Australian dollars to the institute. All of the institute's revenue will be used to invest in research activities in Vietnam.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Nguyen Ngo Quang, acting director of the Department of Science, Technology and Training, Ministry of Health, also said that the establishment of the institute will contribute to strengthening cooperation in scientific research and technology development and innovation.

At the same time, helping to improve the quality of human resources in scientific research contributes directly to Vietnam's efforts to achieve goals of health coverage and care for the people.

Present at the ceremony, Professor Mark Scott, Principal and Chairman of the University of Sydney Council, expressed his pride in officially inaugurating the University of Sydney Vietnam Institute.

"The institute's activities demonstrate our commitment to research and cooperation in Vietnam.

The Institute builds on a long history of collaboration with Vietnamese researchers, students, the business community and government agencies,” said Professor Mark Scott.

Once officially operational in Vietnam, the University of Sydney will support experts, forming a network of leading multidisciplinary scientific researchers, developing innovative and effective solutions to improve the lives of people, society and the environment.

At the scientific conference, university leaders, researchers and scholars from Sydney and Vietnam discussed and shared research on many fields such as society, culture, health, agriculture, etc.

From there, point out the shortcomings and difficulties in each field and propose solutions for the future.
