From March 28-30, more than 7,500 professional and amateur athletes from home and abroad gathered in Quang Tri for the 66th Tien Phong Newspaper National Marathon and Long Distance Championship - 2025. The tournament was highly appreciated for the professionalism and determined spirit of the athletes to overcome all their limits, conquer challenging routes, in which many people broke records, set new records. The tournament also left many special marks of gratitude and appreciation to the heroic martyrs, at the same time, arousing the pride and responsibility of those living today towards the history of the nation.

Many new records were set
The 2025 Tien Phong Newspaper National Marathon and Long Distance Championship brings together many talented athletes from across the country, including members of the national team. At this tournament, the top athletes of Vietnamese sports still maintain good form and continue to reap success.
Notably, athlete Do Quoc Luat won the men's 10 km race with a time of 30 minutes and 45 seconds, winning the Gold Medal, thereby continuing his record of 11 consecutive championships. In the men's full marathon with a time of 42.195 km, athlete Hoang Nguyen Thanh finished with a time of 2 hours, 32 minutes and 23 seconds, winning the Gold Medal, thereby extending his record of 6 consecutive championships.
Other athletes also competed with great results, achieving impressive results such as Hoang Thi Ngoc Hoa, who finished first in the full marathon distance of 42.195 km with a time of 2 hours 42 minutes and 9 seconds. In the distance of 21 km, athlete Nguyen Trung Cuong finished first in the men's category with a time of 1 hour 7 minutes and 15 seconds, athlete Pham Thi Hong Le finished first in the women's category with a time of 1 hour 17 minutes and 43 seconds. 16 athletes of the Quang Tri Athletics Team also competed well, contributing to the Quang Tri delegation winning third place overall. Along with that, thousands of athletes in the grassroots system always strived and persevered to conquer each distance.
On the roads, in addition to devoting all their efforts to completing their goals, many athletes also have lovely "transformations" through impressive competition costumes, clearly expressing their style while bringing joy and connection between athletes and fans. During the competition, viewers witnessed many beautiful actions when athletes always encouraged and supported each other to continue completing the competition.
Mai Quoc Hung, an amateur athlete from Khanh Hoa province, happily said: “I love history and often learn about heroic lands and people, including Quang Tri. Therefore, when I came here to participate in the race, I was very excited to come up with ideas and prepare carefully in all aspects. To clearly show my patriotism and determination, I decided to wear Uncle Ho's soldier's uniform, holding the liberation flag in my hand to compete. Throughout the 21.1 km journey, I was very happy to see many people waving and cheering enthusiastically.”
Proud and moved on the sacred land
The Tien Phong Newspaper National Marathon and Long Distance Championship is not only a connection between sports and historical traditions, but also an opportunity for everyone to remember and honor the great sacrifices of previous generations.
Through meaningful activities such as paying tribute to heroic martyrs at Truong Son National Martyrs Cemetery, Road 9 and Quang Tri Ancient Citadel; releasing flower lanterns on Thach Han River... we express deep gratitude and arouse the pride and responsibility of those living today towards the nation's history.
The flag-raising ceremony held at the Hien Luong - Ben Hai National Historical Site within the framework of the tournament further increased the spiritual value of the tournament.

We hope that with more than 7,500 athletes and thousands of contents in the press and television in recent times, the tournament will bring new momentum to Quang Tri province, especially in socio-economic development and tourism," Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong Newspaper Phung Cong Suong said emotionally.
For many athletes, this is one of the most emotional national flag raising ceremonies in the 66-year history of the tournament. Athlete Ly Tung Anh, 60 years old, from Singapore, said: “My husband and I both participated in the 42.195 km amateur category. When we stood at the Hien Luong - Ben Hai National Historical Site to attend the flag raising ceremony, we had very special feelings. One day soon, I will definitely return to Quang Tri to have more joy and new experiences.”
The 66th Tien Phong Newspaper National Marathon and Long Distance Championship in Quang Tri is not only a top sports tournament but also an emotional and passionate journey. Miss Vietnam 2020 Do Thi Ha shared: “I am very happy to accompany the tournament, participate in many meaningful and humane activities in Quang Tri, thereby, feeling more deeply the value of peace and expressing gratitude for the noble sacrifices of previous generations. I will spread national pride, and at the same time introduce the land and people of Quang Tri to everyone”.
