More than 25 years of singing
Looking back on more than 25 years of singing, what is the milestone that makes you most proud?
- For me, every milestone is something to be proud of. Without a beginning, how can we have the next stages? From the first time stepping onto the professional stage, releasing my first album, to the big live shows... all are imprinted in my memory. I don't choose a specific moment, because every moment is associated with my own efforts and maturity.
When you are at the peak of your career, what motivates you to continue creating and contributing?
- My motivation comes from constantly learning and being grateful. Every day that passes, I remind myself to improve a little bit. As I grow older, the music I send to the audience becomes more meaningful. That is the source of energy for me to create, to never stop contributing.
What do you think about a successful artist: having many hits, many awards, or having a place in the audience's heart?
- An artist must have a hit to be known by the audience. Awards are recognition and encouragement for us to try harder. But in the end, the position in the hearts of the audience is the most important thing. Because only that affection can help the artist survive for a long time.
During your artistic career, have you ever wanted to stop?
- I never want to stop. Sometimes I take a break to regain my energy. Music is an indispensable part of my life.

Do you think about training the next generation of young singers under your brand?
- I haven't thought about accepting an official student, but if there is a chance, I'm willing to support. Duc Phuc's case is an example. When we met, I felt a connection so I helped him at first. For me, "fate" is more important than planning.
Business and management
What opportunity brought you to the business of singing at the same time?
- At first, I only launched a few souvenir products for the audience. Surprisingly, they were warmly received, so I expanded further. In 2007, I was also the first Vietnamese singer to launch my own perfume and shower gel line. It was an interesting experiment, and gradually opened up opportunities for me to stick with business for a longer time.
In many investment fields (music, fashion , perfume), which field are you most passionate about and what is your concept of an "entrepreneur - artist"?
- I devote most of my passion to music and art because that is the field I understand best. In other fields, I mainly learn more because I know I am not good at doing those fields.
I am an artist, not an artist-businessman. Those two words should not be combined like that. It would be more appropriate to say that I do art but with a commercial nature (selling tickets). But that is the company's job, and I only focus on the artistic content, not participating in the company's ticket sales.
How is managing MT Entertainment different from being on stage?
- I see the two things as completely different. Standing on stage, I am sublimated with music. Managing a company requires calculation, system and many other skills. However, currently the director takes care of the operations, I only focus on things directly related to art.
For you, is the goal in business profit or sustainable value?
- For me, sustainable value is more important. When you create real value, profits will come naturally. It's like art: When you put your heart and soul into it, results will surely appear.
Current life
What is the definition of "success" in My Tam's eyes?
- Success for me is simply doing what I love to the best of my ability, and being satisfied with what I have. After many years in the profession, for me, the greatest "asset" I have achieved is my own maturity and the love of the audience. Thanks to music, I receive many good things, both in work and in life.
How do you balance the pressure and stay positive?
- When I am stressed, I often tell myself: Everything will be fine. I do not let myself fall too deeply into negativity. Instead, I choose to think simply and happily, because I believe that optimism always has the power to heal.
Many people think that art requires a free spirit, while business is more about reason. Do you agree with this point of view? And how do you apply it in your business?
- For me, art really requires inspiration and emotion. But business requires reason. I usually do things when I feel happy, but I also remind myself to stay sober so as not to make hasty decisions.
Do you want the audience to remember you as a diva, a businesswoman, or an ordinary person?
- I don't have any title. As long as the audience still remembers the name My Tam and still wants to listen to my music, that's enough happiness.
If you could choose again, would you change the path you took?
- I have never thought of choosing again, because I have never seen a more beautiful path than the one I am on. Every step, whether difficult or favorable, has brought me to today. And I appreciate it all.
What message do you want to send to young people when pursuing both art and business?
- Be honest and sober. Don't be afraid of difficulties, try your best and always be grateful for what you receive. When you work with your heart and perseverance, you will reap the rewards you deserve.
