On the afternoon of April 28, the Forest Protection Department of Ca Mau province announced that the entire Melaleuca forest and island cluster forests in Ca Mau province, over 45,600 hectares, are in a state of severe drought. Of which, nearly 31,000 hectares are at level 5 fire warning (extremely dangerous level and also the highest level on the forest fire warning scale).
U Minh Ha National Park has more than 8,500 hectares of strictly protected Melaleuca forests, but currently there are more than 4,800 hectares of level 5 fire warning. The area with level 5 fire warning is still concentrated in U Minh Ha Forestry One Member Co., Ltd. with more than 16,200 hectares.
Currently, the water level in most canals and streams in the freshwater mangrove forest of Ca Mau is dropping very quickly, the highest is only 2m and the lowest is only 0.05m. With the current hot weather, in just a few days, it is likely that the area of more than 7,100 hectares of forest at level 4 fire warning (dangerous level) in Ca Mau province will move to level 5 fire warning. Accordingly, the forest area raised to the red alert level will reach nearly 40,000 hectares.
Faced with the above severe drought situation, the Steering Committee for the Implementation of the Sustainable Forestry Development Program of Ca Mau province has continuously issued notices, requesting all levels, sectors, forest owners and local authorities with forests in the province to strengthen the implementation of forest fire prevention and fighting measures according to the motto "four on-site."
In particular, special attention should be paid to propaganda and mobilization work to raise people's sense of responsibility, awareness of compliance and good implementation of regulations on forest fire prevention and fighting, especially awareness of fire use of each individual and household living in and near the forest; strictly prohibiting organizations and individuals without authority from entering forests with high risk of fire...
On April 27, 2024, the Organizing Committee of U Minh Forest Fragrance temporarily suspended the 5,000m U Minh Forest Trekking activity due to the high risk of forest fires in the area where the sports event is taking place. The above sports event is one of the activities of the "Ca Mau - Destination 2024" program series, held at U Minh Ha National Park on the occasion of the April 30 and May 1 holidays.
