Stay-up-all-night rescue of flood victims in Thanh Hoa

Thanh Hoa Provincial Police mobilized officers and soldiers, used jet skis, motorboats... to be present at the scene to evacuate isolated people.

On the night of September 29, many people in Nong Cong and Tuong Linh communes posted urgent calls for help on social media as floodwaters rushed in quickly, sweeping away many properties. Many households had to move to higher floors to take shelter, waiting for rescue forces to arrive.

Faced with the critical situation, Thanh Hoa Provincial Police urgently mobilized more than 100 officers and soldiers from many professional departments, coordinating with local forces to carry out rescue work in Nong Cong and Tuong Linh communes.

Many jet skis and motorboats were mobilized to reach isolated households. Rescue forces worked through the night to evacuate hundreds of people from the flooded areas, including many children and the elderly.

Previously, the water level of Cau Chay River rose high, overflowing the dike section flowing through Xuan Tin commune, causing the dike to overflow for more than 4 km, with an average water level of about 80 cm. Although the local authorities and people mobilized forces and materials on the spot to prevent overflow, due to the long dike line, the water pressure was too high and rising quickly, so the temporary reinforcement work could not be carried out effectively. Facing the risk of dike failure and direct threat to people's lives, on the afternoon and evening of September 29, Xuan Tin commune deployed an emergency evacuation plan for about 700 households with more than 2,500 people from 14 villages out of the danger zone to ensure safety.

Storm No. 10 caused prolonged heavy rain in Thanh Hoa, causing flooding in many localities. The Thanh Hoa Provincial Civil Defense Command has issued a quick report, preliminary statistics show that the whole province has up to 602 houses heavily affected by the storm and floods, of which 10 houses were completely damaged, 592 other houses had their roofs blown off or collapsed.

In addition, many areas of crops, aquaculture ponds, and livestock and poultry of the people suffered great damage.
