The digitalization of agriculture is very important and must be carried out at a rapid pace. However, the main problems are the lack of qualified personnel and product loss during the production process.
Stemming from that urgent need, the largest national telecommunications operator in Russia - Rostelecom has introduced many advanced methods that can be applied to the agricultural sector, aiming to increase labor productivity in this field.
One of the most promising technological products for the agricultural sector is a system that continuously monitors the movement of crops.
The system allows to prevent theft of agricultural products and allows monitoring of the entire cycle, from collection, transportation to processing and storage of marketable products.
The system works on industrial Wi-Fi, using components of the Internet of Things ( IoT ) and traffic sensors. Currently, 5 regions of Russia have been testing this new technology system. Initial results are very positive, showing that production activities have increased more than 20% in efficiency compared to before.
The farm animal weighing system is also a remarkable technological solution. In particular, the system does not use any conventional physical measuring devices, but is mainly based on neural network video analysis. In less than 1 minute, the user can receive accurate weight and condition reports of about 200 livestock.
This is the first step towards creating a “completely human-free farm”. The system is highly flexible, with a wide range of functions, including alerting managers to emergencies and changing the animals’ diets according to real-time conditions.
“Digital Hive” is another innovative technology project from Rostelecom for agriculture. The platform uses artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms and IoT sensors to monitor the health of bee colonies.
Thanks to this solution, farmers can collect data on the microclimate inside the hive and take necessary measures if the parameters exceed the permissible limits.
Once implemented, the project has helped to stem the trend of declining bee populations that has been taking place over the past few years in Russia.
