At the foot of Cua Dai Bridge (Hoi An City, Quang Nam ), the workshop of Mr. Vo Tan Tan (born in 1979) is always bustling with visitors coming to buy unique products made from bamboo.

Born into a family of craftsmen in Cam Thanh commune, Tan learned to make items from bamboo and coconut from a young age.

In 2001, he graduated from university with a degree in Electronics and Telecommunications. After working in many jobs, in 2012, Mr. Tan returned to his hometown to follow his father's career. Over the years, he has achieved many successes in the field of producing souvenirs, handicrafts and household items from bamboo.

In 2020, Mr. Tan's facility was temporarily closed due to the Covid-19 epidemic. In his spare time, he came up with the idea of making giant animal models from bamboo for display. These products unexpectedly attracted viewers and were contacted by many tourist areas and hotels at home and abroad to place orders.

Mr. Tan said that when he first started making large models, he encountered many difficulties in stages such as finding the right proportions, suitable bamboo materials, and methods of connecting parts...

With perseverance, he researched and succeeded in finding the secret to processing the models to make them come alive. Familiar animals such as bees, shrimps, crabs, fish, etc. were magnified 1,000 times, making many people amazed by the meticulousness, sophistication and realistic look down to every detail.

“Depending on the customer’s requirements and difficulty, the time to complete each model varies, on average from 1 to 4 months. Each model costs between 30 and 140 million VND,” Mr. Tan shared.
