According to data from Motorcycles Data , the Vietnamese motorcycle market is experiencing a prosperous year 2025. Sales have maintained a growth momentum, with August alone increasing by 17.4%. In the first 8 months of the year, a total of 2.08 million vehicles were sold, an increase of 15.2% over the same period in 2024.
Motorcycle purchasing power in Vietnam has improved in most segments. Scooters increased by 14.8%, while manual transmission motorcycles, despite their small market share, unexpectedly increased by 65.6%.
In particular, the electric motorbike segment recorded impressive growth: The L1 segment (under 50cc) increased by 89%, while the L3 segment (over 50cc) jumped up to 197%.
These figures show that electric vehicles are the new trend thanks to strong consumer demand and the shift to low-emission vehicles.
Motorcycles Data It was also previously reported that Vietnam is currently the world's third largest electric motorbike market, with consumption of about 209,000 new electric motorbikes, growing more than 99% in the first half of 2025.
This result is further reinforced when Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have a roadmap to limit and gradually ban motorbikes using fossil fuels, along with strong incentive programs from businesses.
VinFast continues to assert its pioneering position by continuously launching new products, including models equipped with 2 batteries and battery swapping stations. In the first 8 months of the year, the company's sales increased by 447%, helping VinFast maintain its leading position in the electric vehicle segment, ranking 3rd in the entire market after Honda and Yamaha.
Second place is Yadea with a growth rate of 41.5%, thanks to the "trade-in" strategy and promotions aimed at students during the back-to-school season.
According to Motorcycles Data , Honda's sales in Vietnam only increased slightly by 6.3%, while Yamaha recorded a decrease of 8.6%.
Among the members of the Vietnam Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (VAMM), Honda is the only company that has announced detailed monthly sales figures. In its August report, the company said it sold 154,599 motorcycles of all types, down 21.66% from July and 13.4% lower than the same period last year.
However, the decline in August results can be explained by weak purchasing power in the Ghost Month. Cumulative sales for the fiscal year up to August, Honda reached 864,396 vehicles, a slight increase of 2.2%.
To adapt to the green car trend, Honda has started to launch electric motorbikes such as ICON e: and CUV e:, and plans to expand its product portfolio from fiscal year 2026. However, competition with accelerating names such as VinFast or Yadea promises to be increasingly fierce.
