Nguyen Thi Oanh shows her class, sets a new record at the beginning of 2025

Nguyen Thi Oanh continued to prove her class as the 'queen of Vietnamese athletics' when she had a strong sprint, finishing first at the Vietnam International Half Marathon held on the morning of January 1, 2025.

Vietnam International Half Marathon   has become a prestigious professional sporting event organized by the Vietnam Athletics Federation, contributing to promoting the economy and promoting the image of Hanoi City. At the same time, this is also a milestone and memorable memory for 5,000 Vietnamese athletes as well as international runners and Vietnamese track and field athletes, because it marks the first steps in the new year 2025, bringing participants a new and positive spirit, a symbol of perseverance, endurance and determination to overcome personal limits.

Among the 5,000 athletes participating in the tournament, "Vietnam's athletics queen" Nguyen Thi Oanh received the most attention. In the past two seasons, she won the half marathon for professional women. Notably, when she won the Vietnam International Half Marathon in 2023 and 2024, "Oanh" set a record for Vietnamese athletics. The best parameter of the runner born in 1995 is 1 hour 15 minutes 10 seconds (January 1, 2024).

Not letting her fans down, Nguyen Thi Oanh continued to prove her class with powerful runs. She completed the professional women's half marathon in 1 hour 13 minutes 22 seconds, setting a new record, surpassing her own old record by nearly 2 minutes. At the same time, Nguyen Thi Oanh surpassed the runner-up, Le Thi Tuyet, by more than 2 minutes (1 hour 15 minutes 27 seconds).

In the 21km men's professional category, a surprise happened when Hoang Nguyen Thanh was the first to finish with a time of 1 hour 4 minutes 50 seconds. However, although Nguyen Trung Cuong finished in second place with a time of 1 hour 9 minutes 44 seconds, this athlete was the champion of the 21km distance of the Vietnam International Half Marathon 2025. The reason was that Nguyen Thanh turned around at the wrong place, meaning he did not complete the full distance.

With this unfortunate incident, Nguyen Thanh had to accept the unconfirmed result. Meanwhile, behind Trung Cuong, runner Luong Xuan Son (1 hour 11 minutes 22 seconds) was promoted to the second place.

In addition to the professional events, on the morning of the new year 2025, 5,000 athletes created a festive atmosphere, enthusiastically participating in the 21 km, 10 km, and 5 km distances running through famous historical sites and the most beautiful streets in Hanoi. The family sports event continued to be the highlight of this year's season. By Thien Quang Lake, small families held hands to show their love and solidarity to conquer nearly a lap of Thien Quang Lake as a spirited and hopeful New Year greeting. In addition, the men's and women's team events for 10 km and 21 km for teams of 5 people competed for attractive prizes in the total prize of 550 million VND of the tournament.

The 2025 Vietnam International Half Marathon sponsored by Herbalife has also undergone changes. Compared to the previous two seasons, this year's race has two starting points to comply with the regulations on managing the walking street space of Hoan Kiem Lake and the time for races in Hanoi . The 10 km and half marathon races start at 69 Dinh Tien Hoang, Hoan Kiem Lake. The 5 km race and the family sports race start at 57 Quang Trung, on the shore of Thien Quang Lake. The races finish at the gate in front of Thong Nhat Park and the race ends at 8 o'clock, according to the new regulations. In addition to the above changes, the 2025 Vietnam International Half Marathon still prioritizes the safety and experience of athletes.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Mr. Hoang Ve Dung - President of the Vietnam Athletics Federation shared: "In addition to the half-marathon, 10 km and 5 km distances, the family sports and team events of the tournament have contributed to encouraging people to participate in sports and improve their health. In the third year, the tournament was successful and continued to affirm its reputation and become a major event at the beginning of the year in Hanoi, towards a new year with a new era, an era of sustainable development with the whole country".
