Prolonged rain and floods after storm No. 5 caused hundreds of cubic meters of earth and rock to fall into classrooms, yards, and gates of the primary and kindergarten school in Cha Lung village, Tam Thanh border commune, Thanh Hoa province. The school has been cleaning up the mud and dirt to welcome the new school year.

According to Tuoi Tre Online, recent floods have caused heavy damage at the primary school and kindergarten in Cha Lung village, Tam Thanh border commune, Thanh Hoa province.

Hundreds of cubic meters of soil, rocks, tree roots, dry firewood, and trash from the hills and mountains poured into the classrooms, yards, and gates of these two schools, directly threatening the safety of the structures.

School desks and chairs, teaching equipment at the primary school; toys and teaching aids at the kindergarten were destroyed by floodwaters and rocks. So, preparing for the new school year 2025-2026, the school will lack desks, chairs and teaching equipment.

Ms. Ngan Thi Thuong - principal of Tam Thanh Kindergarten, Tam Thanh commune - said: "The kindergarten in Cha Lung village was severely damaged by floods. In the past few days, with the support of the police force, border guards, militia, union members, local youth and school teachers, we have cleared rocks and soil, dredged mud in classrooms and the school yard.

Despite the difficulties and lack of many learning materials, the school will clean the classrooms and redecorate the school to prepare for the new school year.

Mr. Do Xuan Son - principal of Tam Thanh Primary School, Tam Thanh Commune - shared: "The flood destroyed many desks, chairs, and teaching aids at Cha Lung school. The school in the border commune still faces many difficulties. We hope that the State and philanthropists will soon support the facilities so that teachers and students can feel secure entering the new school year."

Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Le The Anh - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Tam Thanh Commune - said that the floods after storm No. 5 caused 46 major landslides, with a volume of landslides of about 8,080m3. Many inter-village roads were cut off, 3 spillways were damaged, nearly 1km of intra-field canals, and dozens of hectares of rice and aquatic products of local people were swept away by the flood.

Floods also caused severe damage to the kindergarten and primary school in Cha Lung village, greatly affecting teaching and learning.

"Currently, the Party Committee and the government of Tam Thanh commune are making efforts to overcome the consequences of the flood. In particular, focusing on clearing rocks, soil and mud at two primary and kindergarten schools in Cha Lung village. At the same time, reassessing the safety of these two schools to prepare for the new school year 2025-2026," Mr. Le The Anh added.
