The men's individual standard chess event is also the event that Chinese players have won 18 consecutive times in previous world tournaments. Lai Ly Huynh is the first Vietnamese player to win this title.
Last night, Lai Ly Huynh arrived in Ho Chi Minh City. At Tan Son Nhat Airport (Ho Chi Minh City), the new world champion shared: “This is an amazing achievement for me. What is special is that I won the world championship on the day of my daughter's first birthday, which is also my wife's birthday. This coincidence is so great that I can never forget it.”
In the final match of the men's individual standard chess event that ended on the afternoon of September 27, Lai Ly Huynh defeated the very strong Chinese player Doan Thang. The Vietnamese player put his opponent's chessboard in a difficult position and forced Doan Thang to shake hands and admit defeat.

Talking about this impressive victory, Lai Ly Huynh shared: “That match was the game of my life. My opponent had a better opening, but he missed his chances, making two important moves.”
“The reality on the chessboard shows that the players are under a lot of pressure, sometimes causing them to lose control. I successfully took advantage of that opportunity to win the final,” said the new world champion Lai Ly Huynh.
After becoming the world champion, Lai Ly Huynh said he must continue to make more efforts, as the current world champion, to aim to defend his title.
