After completing the university entrance exams, Jiang began to have symptoms of fever and chest pain. On July 11, his family took him to the hospital for examination and received a diagnosis of acute myocarditis, a rare and very dangerous disease.
During treatment, Jiang fell into a deep coma and had to use an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) device to maintain his life in the intensive care unit.
Jiang's family is in a very difficult situation. After a traffic accident, the father's mobility was severely affected, so he only stays at home and does not generate any income. The mother sells food on the street to cover all the family expenses and raise Jiang and her two sisters.

The total cost of Jiang's treatment in the recent past has amounted to more than 200,000 yuan (more than 730 million VND), forcing the family to borrow money from everywhere.
On the eighth day of Jiang’s coma, her father received her college admission notice in the mail. He hurriedly brought the notice to the hospital, sat by her bedside, and whispered to her, “The whole family is so happy, you passed the college entrance exam!”
At this moment, Jiang's eyelids moved slightly, a sign that gave the whole family hope that she would wake up and escape from her coma. Indeed, the next day, she did regain consciousness, was able to open her eyes and communicate with her hands.
The doctors and nurses who treated him quickly helped him make a video call with his parents, who were not at the hospital at the time. Jiang made an “I’m fine” hand gesture to reassure his parents, as he was not yet able to speak.
Doctors treating Jiang said this was a rare recovery. Jiang's heart function has now returned to normal and his health is stable.
Jiang has now been admitted to Huanghe Jiaotong University. “No matter how difficult the situation is, I will send my child to university,” the father said. Jiang has been transferred to a regular ward and is expected to start school next September.
