Quickly overcome the consequences of floods

On the night of September 11 and early morning of September 12, heavy rains occurred in the West and Northwest regions, causing floods and inundation in many localities. According to records, many houses were flooded, crops, rice and constructions were damaged. Local authorities are mobilizing forces to quickly overcome the consequences and stabilize people's lives.

According to the report of the Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, the common rainfall measured during the night of September 11 and the early morning of September 12 was from 30-70mm, some places had very heavy rain, rainfall over 150mm such as: Cao Bo 205mm, Yen Lam 186mm, Phu Luu 183mm. Heavy rain caused floods on the river and stream systems, inundating low-lying areas.

At 7am this morning (September 12), some traffic routes were flooded, causing danger to traffic participants; many areas of rice, crops, and fruit trees were flooded; many houses were flooded and damaged by landslides.

Yen Phu commune is one of the localities most severely damaged after the heavy rain. Comrade Trinh Quoc Sang, Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said that the flood swept through all the villages in the old Yen Lam commune area along the Nac stream, including: Thai Khao, Quang Tan and Ngoi Sen, October, only Nac Con village is isolated and inaccessible; 6 houses were damaged...

Mr. Ban Van Canh, Party Cell Secretary and Head of Thai Khao Village, shared that the flash flood on the night of September 11 and early morning of September 12 swept away 2 motorbikes, 1 tractor, burying the entire 4 hectares of rice and corn in the village; 2 electric poles and 1 house were damaged. Currently, the electricity is also out.

Mr. Ly Van Dat is still in shock after the sudden flash flood that happened that night. According to Mr. Dat, after the torrential rains, the water rushed in and swept everything away. He only had time to shout and urge his wife and children to escape to ensure their lives. His house was also swept away by the flash flood, and the electric pole fell on it, causing severe damage.

In Phu Luu commune, 34/34 villages were affected, according to preliminary statistics, dozens of hectares of rice, fruit trees, and crops were flooded. The estimated damage was hundreds of millions of dong. The commune is coordinating with the regional agricultural extension station to guide people to clear the flow and drain water to protect the crop area.

In Cao Bo commune, 20m of road leading to Lung Tao village was severely damaged by the flood, causing local traffic jams. In addition, many landslides threatened the safety of people. Comrade Nguyen Van Duong, Chairman of Cao Bo commune People's Committee, said that as soon as the flash flood passed, the commune mobilized machinery and human resources to overcome the consequences. Currently, the road has been basically reinforced. At the landslide points, the commune also mobilized machines to level the land, stretch ropes, and put up warning signs prohibiting people from entering the area.

According to the report of the Provincial Civil Defense Command Office, flash floods have caused heavy damage to people's property and crops. To quickly overcome the consequences, localities have effectively implemented 4 on-site measures (on-site command; on-site forces; on-site means and materials; on-site logistics) to support people to quickly stabilize their lives. By 11:00 a.m. on September 12, most of the landslides had been leveled, ensuring safe traffic. For households whose houses were damaged, localities have arranged for them to move to schools and cultural houses for safe shelter.

According to the forecast of the Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, from tonight (September 12) to tomorrow morning (September 13), there will continue to be showers and thunderstorms in the province, with some areas having heavy to very heavy rain. The average rainfall is from 10-40mm/24h, in some places over 100mm/24h. The water level of the Lo River in the communes of Bac Me, Bac Quang, Ham Yen, and Yen Phu is likely to rise from 1-2m.

To ensure the safety of people's lives and property, the Provincial Civil Defense Command requested localities to strictly implement the 3 readiness regulations (ready to proactively prevent; ready to respond promptly; ready to promptly and effectively overcome) in preventing, combating and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters; strictly prohibiting people and vehicles from passing through spillway areas when floodwaters rise.
