Bustling shopping for the full moon festival in July
(Baohatinh.vn) - On the occasion of the full moon of the seventh lunar month, the market for offerings in Ha Tinh is bustling. The consumption of items such as fruits, areca nuts, fresh flowers, pre-made offerings, etc. has increased sharply compared to normal days.

According to traditional markets, the shopping atmosphere started to get busy and bustling from September 4 (July 13 of the lunar calendar). Stalls were crowded with customers selling food, fresh fruit, betel, votive paper, etc.
To meet the increased customer demand, retailers have imported large quantities of hot-selling items during the full moon festival in July.
People carefully choose each flower and fruit to offer incense on the important full moon day of the year.
Betel and votive paper are indispensable offerings on the family altar during the full moon of the seventh lunar month.
Ms. Le Thi Hoa - a trader selling votive paper and areca nuts at Ha Tinh market said: " This year, purchasing power has increased significantly, people come to buy a lot. On the 13th day of the 7th lunar month, there was a time when I ran out of stock and had to call people to replenish many items."
According to records, the prices of items for the full moon festival are basically stable compared to normal days. Areca and betel nuts cost from 3,000 to 10,000 VND/plate (including 1 areca nut and 1 betel leaf). Chrysanthemums cost 8,000 to 9,000 VND/flower, gladiolus and lilies cost 9,000 to 10,000 VND/flower. In general, the price of fresh flowers is 1,000 to 2,000 VND/flower higher than normal days, especially lotus flowers cost from 12,000 to 17,000 VND/flower, nearly double the normal days due to the limited supply of this item. Fresh fruits are displayed by vendors with a variety of fruits and beautiful shapes for customers to choose from. The prices of basic fruits are the same as usual or increased by 5,000 - 10,000 VND/kg. Some fruits that are chosen by customers are: dragon fruit 35,000 - 45,000 VND/kg, mango 35,000 - 40,000 VND/kg, pomegranate 60,000 VND/kg, longan 30,000 VND/kg, melon 35,000 - 50,000 VND/kg... Full moon bananas cost from 30,000 - 80,000 VND/bunch, some bunches even cost up to 150,000 VND, depending on their beauty. In addition to traditional offerings, on this occasion, businesses also sell many beautiful foods and offerings such as su se cakes, mochi cakes...
According to traders, in addition to preparing for the ancestral altar worship ceremony of each family, on the occasion of the 15th day of the 7th lunar month, people also prepare many offerings to present at their family shrines, thus increasing purchasing power. Ms. Thuy Hang (Thanh Sen ward) shared: “ The full moon of the seventh lunar month is an important occasion for people to turn to their ancestors and origins. Every full moon, I always prepare the offerings very carefully. Some offerings such as chicken offerings, sweet rice balls, I have ordered at the beginning of the month, and some offerings such as fruits, areca nuts, etc., I buy and prepare myself.” With convenience and guaranteed aesthetics and quality, pre-made offerings such as chicken and sticky rice trays, chicken offerings, lotus flower dumpling sets, vegetarian food trays, pre-made fruit trays, sweet rice balls, lotus tea... are also chosen by many people. Cake and sweet rice sets cost around 100,000 VND, chicken and sticky rice sets cost from 500,000 VND or more. Due to the large number of orders, worshiping service establishments are busy on this occasion, mobilizing human resources to work at full capacity to ensure timely delivery of offerings to customers. Ms. Nguyen Quy - owner of Tuan Quy fruit shop (Tran Phu street, Thanh Sen ward) said: " Each pre-made fruit tray costs from 300,000 VND to more than 1 million VND. On the 13th day of the 7th lunar month, we sold about 30 - 40 trays, and the number of customers ordering to pick up on the 14th and 15th lunar month is up to hundreds of trays. To meet the deadline, we have to work at night."
The full moon of the seventh lunar month is an important holiday in the spiritual life of many Vietnamese families, and is also an occasion for people to prepare Vu Lan offerings, expressing the filial piety of descendants to their ancestors.
