Farmers in the eastern communes of the province harvest more than 35,000 hectares of summer-autumn rice.

Mr. Kieu Van Cang, Deputy Head of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection (Department of Agriculture and Environment) said: Up to now, farmers in the eastern communes have harvested more than 35,000 hectares out of a total of 42,130 hectares of summer-autumn rice. Thanks to a guaranteed water supply and few pests, this year's crop yield is forecast to exceed the 69 quintals/hectare level of the same period last year.

In Tuy Phuoc commune, Mr. Nguyen Trong Dung, a farmer with many years of experience growing rice, confided: "This crop has good rice, with few pests and diseases, and a yield of about 400 kg per sao (500 m²). My family has just harvested nearly 5 sao, and got 40 bags of 50 kg each."

Taking advantage of the sunny weather, people are focusing on harvesting quickly to avoid risks due to unseasonal rain at the end of the season.

However, the joy of a good harvest is accompanied by worries about output. The current price of rice has decreased by 1,000-2,000 VND/kg compared to the same period last year.

Mr. Nguyen The Truyen, Director of Phuoc Quang Agricultural Cooperative, said: This year's Summer-Autumn crop, the yield in the rice fields in Tuy Phuoc Bac commune is quite high, with the old Phuoc Quang area alone estimated at about 75 quintals/ha. However, the price of rice is decreasing by an average of 1,000 VND/kg compared to the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring crop and 1,000-2,000 VND/kg compared to last year's Summer-Autumn crop.

Currently, the main round-grain rice varieties sown by farmers in this Summer-Autumn crop such as TBR1 and Q5 are purchased by traders at prices ranging from 6,800-7,000 VND/kg, down about 400 VND/kg compared to the beginning of the crop.

Authorities said the decrease in rice prices was mainly due to a sharp increase in domestic supply, while rice exports were showing signs of slowing down in some markets.

Faced with this situation, many farmers have chosen to dry and store rice in warehouses to wait for prices to increase. Some cooperatives are also supporting farmers in preservation and connecting with consumers to avoid dumping when prices drop.

Experts expect the rice export market to be vibrant again by the end of the fourth quarter of 2025 when many countries increase their food reserves. This is considered a positive signal that can push up domestic rice prices in the coming time.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment recommends that people continue to closely monitor the market situation and calculate the appropriate time to sell to ensure economic efficiency. At the same time, it is necessary to be proactive in preservation to avoid moldy rice, which reduces quality.
