By July 19, localities had basically completed planting 53,200 hectares of winter-spring rice as planned. Currently, early-season rice is in the tillering stage, mid-season rice has begun to tiller, and late-season rice is taking root and greening.
Currently, the weather is often alternating between sunshine and rain, which is quite favorable for the process of land preparation, sowing and growing of the winter-spring rice crop. However, the winter-spring weather is often complicated and extreme, negatively affecting the growth and development of crops. On the other hand, some pests and diseases in the winter-spring crop conditions often have the risk of arising and causing more serious damage than in the spring crop.
To minimize damage caused by bad weather and pests to crop production, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development recommends that localities and specialized agencies maintain shallow water levels in the fields so that the rice can take root, recover, and tiller early, increasing the rice's ability to resist heat.
Farmers are advised to apply balanced fertilizer, in sufficient quantity, at the right time, and not to apply fertilizer too late or to apply simple nitrogen fertilizer to limit rice from being affected by bacterial leaf blight and bacterial stripe disease. In case of rice being poisoned by organic matter, it is necessary to change the water in the field, stir the mud to allow oxygen to circulate in the soil, and add lime powder or Tricoderma fungi combined with foliar fertilizer spraying to help the rice recover quickly.
Farmers proactively kill weeds and golden apple snails immediately after planting. Organize centralized rat extermination, ensure safety measures during the extermination process and absolutely do not use electricity to kill rats.
