Việt NamViệt Nam11/09/2023

In recent years, poverty reduction work in Bac Ai district has achieved many remarkable results. In addition to the investment of the State, the participation of local authorities, and the support of functional agencies, people in the mountainous district of Bac Ai have changed their thinking and working methods, proactively converted crops and livestock, eliminated backward customs to develop production, and strive to escape poverty sustainably.

Mr. Pi Nang Nhui's family in Ra Giua village, Phuoc Trung commune, previously had no land for production so they only worked for hire, making the family's economy difficult. In 2018, his family borrowed 25 million VND from the Social Policy Bank to buy 2 breeding cows. Thanks to hard work, the herd has grown to 7 cows, and his family sold 2 cows to repair the house. Mr. Nhui shared: Since borrowing capital from the bank to develop cattle farming, I have focused on developing the family economy, no longer having to work for hire like before, thanks to that, the family's economy has become increasingly better.

Visiting the fruit tree planting model combined with breeding cows with an area of nearly 3 hectares of Mr. Mang Bich's family in Da Ba Cai village, Phuoc Thanh commune, a typical example of changing the economic development mindset of the Raglai people here. Mr. Bich said: My family's life was unstable before because we could only produce one crop in the rainy season with crops such as beans and corn. Since the commune mobilized people to convert crops, my family decided to buy green-skinned grapefruit, Australian mango, Thai jackfruit, coconut, and custard apple to plant. With a plan to use short-term to support long-term, my family planted hybrid corn intercropped with fruit trees and planted grass to have a source of fresh food for 10 cows, thereby helping the family economy to develop more and more. Thanks to the correct conversion of crops and guidance from the commune's agricultural staff, the crops have grown well and promise to achieve high yields.

Thanks to the innovation in thinking in labor and production, the family economy of Ms. Kadá Thị Uyển (left) in Suối Rớ village, Phước Chính commune is growing.

To develop the family economy, Ms. Kadá Thị Uyển and her husband in Suối Rớ village, Phước Chính commune borrowed 50 million VND from the Social Policy Bank to invest in opening a grocery store and developing a model of breeding cows. Thanks to the right investment, from a household with economic difficulties, her family now has food and savings. Ms. Uyển shared: My husband and I rose from poverty to be like today, the most important thing in life is still the will to rise up, because if the poor do not make efforts and overcome difficulties, they will not escape poverty.

Households that know how to change their thinking and ways of doing things, proactively convert crops and livestock, eliminate backward customs to develop production, and rise up to escape poverty sustainably such as Mr. Pi Nang Nhui's family, Mr. Mang Bich's family or Ms. Kadá Thị Uyển's family appear more and more in the mountainous district of Bac Ai. Implementing the program of rapid and sustainable poverty reduction combined with new rural construction, over the past 5 years, Bac Ai district has deployed over 100 models and projects to support localities in converting crop and livestock structures; investing in developing socio-economic infrastructure; diversifying livelihoods, developing production; implementing credit policies to support production investment... This is an important basis to help Raglai people in Bac Ai district have more conditions to develop production, moving towards rapid and sustainable poverty reduction.

Mr. Tran Quy Duong, Head of the Department of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs of Bac Ai district, said: In the coming time, the Department will step up propaganda work to help people better understand the sustainable poverty reduction policy, helping people gradually change their thinking, have the spirit of competition in production, and escape poverty; promote vocational training for rural workers to help people have stable jobs, and implement support policies and preferential loans so that people have conditions to develop the economy and escape poverty sustainably.
