The Philippines tops the list of 28 countries across continents in terms of the percentage of women holding senior management positions.

This is the result of an annual survey conducted and recently announced by the Grant Thornton auditing network based in London (UK).

Philippines đứng đầu trong số 28 quốc gia ở các châu lục trong bảng xếp hạng về tỷ lệ phụ nữ nắm giữ vị trí quản lý cấp cao.
The Philippines dominates the rankings for the percentage of women holding senior management positions, according to a survey by Grant Thornton.

The survey, conducted in the fourth quarter of 2023, found that women hold 43% of senior management positions in companies in the Philippines. Thailand ranked third at 41%, up four spots from 2023, with more women becoming marketing directors and sales directors.

Two other Southeast Asian countries made it into the top 10, Malaysia (39.6%) and Indonesia (37.4%) at 7th and 10th place, respectively.

The Philippines has traditionally ranked high in Grant Thornton’s survey. It held the No. 1 spot in 2020 and 2021, before dropping to No. 2 and No. 4 in 2023 and 2022, respectively.

According to Ms. Tomoko Tashiro, Director of Marketing Communications at Grant Thornton Network in Japan, this achievement of the Philippines comes from the initial efforts in addressing gender issues, such as the passage of the Magna Carta for Women in 2009, which contributed to ensuring women's economic and social rights.

In the Asia- Pacific region, Australia (39.6%) ranked 8th. South Korea and Japan dropped to 27th and 28th place respectively, showing that men still dominate senior management positions in these two Northeast Asian countries.

The top 10 also includes the following countries: South Africa (42%), Türkiye (41%), Nigeria (40.6%), Spain (40.3%) and France (37.9%).

Globally, the proportion of women in management positions has remained at around 33% for four consecutive years.

Grant Thornton conducted the survey through interviews at 4,891 mid-sized companies, 90% of which had between 50 and 2,500 employees. These companies operated in 28 countries in Asia, Europe and the Americas.

In this survey, senior management refers to positions ranging from chief executive officer (CEO) and director in charge of the day-to-day operations of the company (or chief operating officer) to board members and chief financial officers.
