Red River water rises, Yen Bai people stay up all night to pack up to escape the flood

TPO - On the evening and night of October 1, the water level of the Red River, passing through Yen Bai city (Yen Bai), rose above alert level 3, flooding several streets along the riverbank.

From the afternoon and evening of October 1, the water level of the Red River (Thao River) passing through Yen Bai city continuously rose.

At 9:00 p.m. on October 1, the water level on the Red River was 31.66 m (0.34 m below alert level 3).

Rising river water has flooded Thanh Nien Street and the Red River embankment in low-lying areas of Hong Tan, Hong Phu, Hong Thai, Hong Thanh residential groups, Hong Ha ward, Yen Bai city. In some locations, the water level is about 50 - 70cm high.

To prevent flooding, people on the roads bordering the Red River urgently moved their belongings to safety.

Move valuables to higher areas and monitor rising water levels to proactively evacuate people to safety.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong (Thanh Nien Street, Hong Ha Ward) said that her house was flooded after the recent storm No. 3 (historic flood from September 8 to September 11) and has not been cleaned up yet, now it is flooded again.

As soon as they received information about rising water on the streets bordering the Red River, local authorities mobilized military and police forces to assist people in evacuating their properties, warned of flooded areas, and monitored water levels on the streets to promptly respond.

The Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention - Search and Rescue of Hong Ha Ward, Yen Bai City requested the sub-committees for Natural Disaster Prevention - Search and Rescue of residential groups to continue to monitor developments and flood situations and promptly notify organizations, agencies, units and people to proactively respond, evacuate people and property to safe places to minimize damage caused by floods when the Red River rises and causes flooding.
