A federal judge said Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is not personally liable in 25 lawsuits accusing the company of causing children to become addicted to social media, a decision that could give the Facebook boss a sigh of relief.
Federal Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers in Oakland, California, dismissed allegations that Zuckerberg directed Meta to conceal serious health and psychological risks to children using the Facebook and Instagram social media platforms.

Plaintiffs call the Meta co-founder the "guiding spirit" behind the alleged cover-up efforts, saying he ignored internal warnings about the risks.
However, based on the records, the judge found a lack of specific information about Zuckerberg's wrongdoing and said "mere control of the company's operations is not enough" to determine responsibility.
Ms. Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers' decision does not affect other lawsuits against Meta.
The plaintiffs brought claims under the laws of 13 US states: Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Maryland, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.
Previn Warren, a partner at Motley Fools' Rice who represents the plaintiffs, said his clients will continue to gather evidence "to expose the truth about how Big Tech intentionally prioritizes profits over the safety of our children."
The 25 lawsuits are among hundreds filed by children, families and schools asking Meta, Alphabet's Google, ByteDance's TikTok and Snap's Snapchat to be held accountable for social media addiction among young people.
Dozens of US state attorneys general are pursuing similar lawsuits against Meta, linking the company's social media platforms to anxiety, depression, insomnia and impacts on education and daily life.
