The New York Post reported on December 26 that billionaire Elon Musk just revealed the reason he posted a photo of himself dressed as Santa Claus, in which the 53-year-old businessman's body looks very slim.
After posting a photo on social network X on December 25 in a Santa Claus costume with a long white beard and the words "Santa Ozempic", Mr. Musk - who owns Tesla and SpaceX - explained that he actually uses another drug called Mounjaro.
Like Ozempic, Mounjaro is a GLP-1 inhibitor, a class of drugs developed to help people with diabetes regulate blood sugar and insulin levels.
However, more and more Americans are using GLP-1 inhibitors to successfully lose weight. Before the above post, Mr. Musk expressed support for these weight loss drugs to curb obesity in the US.
Mr Musk said he preferred Mounjaro to Ozempic because high doses of Ozempic made him "fart and burp like Barney from The Simpsons".
"Mounjaro appears to have fewer side effects and is more effective," said Mr. Musk, who was chosen by US President-elect Donald Trump to lead the Government Effectiveness Board in the upcoming administration.
Mr. Musk’s views on the widespread use of GLP-1 inhibitors to fight obesity clash with those of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Mr. Trump’s pick for secretary of Health and Human Services.
Mr. Kennedy Jr. believes that Americans need to eat healthier and that it would be a more cost-effective way to address the obesity crisis.
In 2022, Mr. Musk said he was using another GLP-1 inhibitor, Wegovy. The billionaire admitted that he does not like to exercise.
