Shocking discovery of 15-ton super tyrant monster

(NLDO) - Canadian and British scientists have described a terrifying carnivorous monster, 70% larger than the famous dinosaur Scotty.

A study recently published in the journal Ecology and Evolution has created more than 140 million simulated versions of one of the most terrifying monsters of all time: Tyrannosaurus rex (T-rex).

This work has helped them describe the largest T-rex ever to roam the Earth. And it's a chilling result.

T-rex is the only identified species of the genus Tyrannosaurus, belonging to the subfamily Tyrannosaurinae, a group of theropod dinosaurs with the characteristic phenotype of terrifying "tyrants".

They had one of the largest bodies of any carnivorous dinosaur and an even larger head, a terrifying jaw, powerful legs and superior hunting abilities.

The most famous T-rex specimen is Scotty, excavated in 1991, which is 68 million years old.

Scotty was identified as an adult T-rex, approximately 30 years old when he died, with a body length of up to 13 m and a weight of 8.8 tons.

However, in this study, two paleontologists Jordan Mallon (Canadian Museum of Nature) and David Hone (Queen Mary University of London - UK) pointed out that the largest T-rex must have weighed about 15 tons, which is about 70% larger than Scotty.

The terrible calculations of this "super tyrant" monster were not completely beyond the predictions of paleontologists.

According to Science Alert, a recent study has shown that up to 2.5 billion T-rex appeared on our planet in the species' short 2.4 million years.

But so far, we have only discovered 84 relatively complete skeletons.

And there's even more evidence of a "super tyrant": There are individual bones believed to be from a T-rex or a Tyrannosaurus rex cousin, with dimensions that suggest a body much larger than Scotty's.

Massive body sizes were not uncommon during the Cretaceous period, the golden age of dinosaurs.

The most famous of these is the Sauropod dinosaur lineage, with species belonging to the Titanosaurus branch weighing up to tens of tons, the largest known being able to weigh nearly 70 tons when alive.

However, Sauropods are herbivorous dinosaurs, so the "tyrant" title still belongs to T-rex.

Unfortunately, all of the super monsters of that period became extinct after the Chicxulub asteroid hit Earth 66 million years ago.
